Are those thumb grip things that you slide into the flash part actually worth it if they arent the official Leica brand?
I just got an M10 yesterday and I am super nervous about dropping it because it feels way more slippery than my old phone and I spent my whole budget on the camera. I saw the Leica one is crazy expensive like $200 but then I see random ones on Amazon for 30 bucks and I dont know if they fit the same or if they might scratch the paint. Sorry if this is a really basic thing to ask but I have no idea what I am doing yet and just want to hold it better for my trip next week...
Tbh I went through the same panic when I first got my M series. I was terrified of dropping it but couldnt justify $200 for a tiny piece of metal. I have been using the JJC TA-M10 Thumbs Up Grip for Leica M10 for ages and I am honestly super satisfied with how it has held up. It has these tiny silicone pads inside the rail so there is literally no metal-on-metal contact to worry about scratching your finish. It fits the hot shoe dimensions perfectly without being too tight or too loose. I am a bit of a nerd about specs and this one matches the M10 curves really well. The high-grade aluminum keeps it light but durable enough for daily use. It gives that extra bit of leverage so you can one-hand the camera without feeling like it is gonna slide out of your palm. Saved me a ton of money that I put toward a better lens instead. Definitely works well for me without any complaints.
I've been using the Haoge THB-M10B Metal Thumb Up Grip for Leica M10 for a year and it works perfectly. Fit is snug and mine came with little rubber pads to prevent any scratching on the finish. If you want something more premium but still way cheaper than Leica, the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX is basically the gold standard. Both feel super secure for way less money.
> I saw the Leica one is crazy expensive like $200 but then I see random ones on Amazon for 30 bucks Omg congrats on the M10! Youre gonna absolutely love it once you get used to the handling. Honestly... spending $200 on the official brand is just throwing money away imo. I use the Haoge THB-M10B Thumb Rest for Leica M10 and it's freaking amazing! The fit is super tight and it has these little silicone pads so it wont scratch the finish at all. I was worried too because that paint is precious, right? But these high quality third-party ones are usually solid aluminum and feel way better than holding the slick body alone. It completely changes the grip and makes it feel secure even with one hand. Definitely go for it and save that extra cash for a nice strap or more batteries! Youll be so much more confident shooting on your trip next week.

I'd actually avoid those $30 Amazon ones. Over the years, I've seen way too many people jam their hot shoes because the machining tolerances are off by a fraction of a millimeter. Its not worth the risk on a M10. I've been using the IDS Works Folding Thumb Rest for Leica M10 and the build quality is far superior. TL;DR: Cheap grips often have poor tolerances that damage hot shoe springs.
