Hey everyone! I just picked up the new Leica Q3 43 and I'm loving the image quality, but I'm struggling with low-light situations where I need some fill flash. The built-in flash is pretty limited for my needs.
What external flash units are you using with your Q3 43? I'm particularly interested in something compact that won't overwhelm the camera's sleek profile. Budget isn't a huge concern if the quality justifies it. Any recommendations or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
tbh I was realy worried about spending even MORE money after buying the Q3 43. I'm still pretty new to this so I ended up going with the LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II. It’s way cheaper than the official ones and super small, which I LOVE because it fits in my jacket pocket. iirc it doesn't have the fancy TTL auto settings like the Leica brand ones, which was honestly a bit scary to try at first, but it basically forced me to learn how light works. I mostly just use it for a tiny bit of fill for family shots. One quick tip—if you look at non-Leica brands, definitely check the trigger voltage first. I read somewhere that old flashes can sometimes damage new cameras if the voltage is too high, so I stayed away from vintage gear just to be safe. Also, try bouncing the flash off a white ceiling instead of pointing it right at people! It makes the light look SO much softer and less harsh, ngl.
I've been using the Leica SF 60 with my Q3 43 and it's fantastic! Yes, it's pricey but the build quality matches the camera perfectly. The TTL metering is spot-on and it doesn't look out of place on the camera. If you're already invested in the Leica ecosystem, it's worth the premium.
Been using this for years, no complaints
