Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.

tbh it’s probably gonna be more like late 2026 or even early 2027 if they stick to their usual release cadence but honestly waiting that long is kinda risky if you're trying to budget for it now since Leica prices basically only ever go up and you might end up priced out by the time it actually drops... Just a couple of things to keep in mind regarding the cost and value:
- The price jump: Thinking the SL4 will launch at the same price as the SL3 is a total gamble and usually a mistake because of production costs so you gotta be ready for a significant premium.
- Depreciation: The current gen is gonna lose value fast once the SL4 rumors get officially confirmed so you might be better off finding a used deal on current stock now instead of waiting years for a body that'll just depreciate anyway.
- Spec trap: unless you absolutely need a faster processor or whatever new sensor tech they're cooking up the current tech is probably more than enough for most work... not 100% sure but if you wait too long you’re basically just losing time you could be shooting and the resale value on your current gear is only going one way while you wait.

^ This. Also, we are likely looking at late 2026 for the release. honestly though, i am not even that hyped about it anymore. my current setup has been such a letdown on reliability during my last few landscape trips. the one i got a while back just keeps glitching out when the weather gets even slightly damp.

  • random freezes during long exposures
  • card write errors that cost me a whole sunset
  • weather sealing that doesnt feel very confident it really sucks because you expect that tank-like build quality for the money. unfortunately, the modern digital bodies feel way more fragile than the old school gear i used to rely on. maybe 2026 gives them enough time to actually finish the firmware before they start shipping units this time... definitely not as good as expected so far.
