I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a Leica M10, and I’m absolutely loving the rangefinder experience so far! However, it feels a bit 'naked' compared to my old setup. I want to keep the kit minimalist but functional. I’ve been looking into thumb grips for better handling and maybe a high-quality leather neck strap—I've heard great things about Artisan & Artist. I'm also debating if a half-case is actually worth it for protection or if it just adds unnecessary bulk. Since these cameras are such an investment, I want to make sure I’m getting gear that actually improves the shooting experience. What are the absolute 'must-have' accessories you’d recommend for a new M user?

sooo i totally get that 'naked' vibe. i was paranoid about dropping mine at first! honestly, instead of pricey leather, i recommend the Artisan & Artist ACAM-102 Cotton Camera Strap. it's way cheaper and super durable. also, skip the expensive grips; a simple Match Technical Bip Soft Release Button actually helps stabilize your shots more for way less money. half-cases? idk, they basically just make changing the battery a HUGE pain. keep it simple... works best.

sooo In my experience, when I first got my M10 I was totally obsessed with technical specs but also terrified of scratching it... tbh i almost bought a $300 half-case but realized it just makes swapping the Leica BP-SCL5 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery a total pain. I'm still kinda new to leicas but keeping it lean is definitely the move. i recommend the Haoge THB-M10B Thumb Rest for better handling. it’s solid aluminum and way cheaper than the official version but fits the hot shoe perfectly. for the strap, look at the Gordy's Camera Straps Leather Neck Strap. it's rugged latigo leather and lasts forever... basically looks better the more you use it tho! lesson learned? skip the bulky cases and focus on the grip and strap. it keeps the weight down and makes the rangefinder experience way better. gl with the kit!!

i would suggest the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card for reliability and maybe a Leica Neoprene Case M? make sure to keep it protected... safety is everything!

oh man, congrats on the M10!! honestly, i feel u on the 'naked' feeling, but you dont gotta spend a fortune. when i first got mine, i went overboard on accessories, but i lowkey think keeping it lean is better. here's my budget-friendly technical breakdown:

- Thumb Grip: Skip the official one. Grab the Haoge THB-M10B Metal Hot Shoe Thumb Rest. It's basically the same milled aluminum for $45 instead of $200. Fit is 1:1.
- Strap: I love leather, but the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap L-AS-3 is way more versatile and under $45.
- Storage: Dont overpay for V90 cards. The M10 buffer is slow. The SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card is the reliable sweet spot.
- Protection: Grab a ULBTER M10 Screen Protector 0.3mm 9H Hardness Tempered Glass for $10. Cheap insurance!

Anyway, i'd skip the half-case... just adds bulk. gl with the new rig!

Building on the earlier suggestion, you might want to be cautious about the torque applied to your hot shoe when using a thumb grip. I would suggest looking into the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX. Compared to the cheaper aluminum clones, the brass construction is basically a better match for the M10 frame and wont mar the finish as easily if it gets bumped. A few other technical bits to consider:

  • Half-cases: Most are a pain for battery swaps, but the Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M10 is the gold standard. They offer a version with a functional bottom door so you dont have to strip the camera naked every time you charge. Just make sure to check if you need the tripod screw opening before you pull the trigger.
  • Filters: Since Leica glass is such a massive investment, a B+W 39mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-nano 010M Filter is usually essential. These have way better coating technology than basic ones, preventing ghosting in night shots. Be careful with cheap glass filters tho... they can actually degrade your sharpness.
  • Straps: Check out the Rock n Roll M-System Leather Strap. The design is kinda like a watch band, which helps distribute the weight way better than a standard thin neck strap. Just watch out for some leather dyes bleeding onto light clothing if you get caught in the rain... happened to me once, ngl. Let me know what lenses youre using and I can check the thread sizes for you.
