Hey everyone! I just finally pulled the trigger on a new Leica M11 after saving up for quite a while. I’m absolutely in love with the build quality and that 60MP sensor, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of accessories available. Since this is a pretty significant investment, I want to make sure I’m protecting it properly while also improving the ergonomics for daily shooting.

I’ve been looking at the Visoflex 2 for those tricky manual focus situations, but the price tag is making me hesitate. I’m also torn between getting a classic thumb support or the larger multi-functional hand grip—I'm worried the extra bulk of the grip might ruin the slim M-series profile that I love so much. Additionally, for those of you who have been using the M11 for a while, is an extra BP-SCL7 battery really necessary given the improved internal storage and battery life, or should I focus on a high-quality screen protector and a half-case first?

I want to keep my setup relatively minimal and avoid buying gear that will just sit in my bag. What were the absolute 'must-have' accessories you bought in the first month of ownership? Are there any specific third-party brands you recommend that offer better value than the official Leica-branded gear?

Story time: I went through this last year! I saved a ton by grabbing the Haoge THB-M11B Thumb Grip instead of the Leica one—it's way cheaper and feels amazing!! Also, I totally skipped the extra battery cuz the M11 power is highkey insane. Just grabbed a JJC GSP-M11 Tempered Glass Screen Protector for the screen and called it a day. Focus on protection first, right? gl!!

Basically, you gotta realize that with a camera this expensive, protection is your number one priority. I'm pretty conservative when it comes to my gear, so my first purchase was the Leica Screen Protector for M11 immediately. Honestly, you dont want to risk a scratch on that beautiful 60MP screen.

In my experience, the slim profile is why we buy Leica in the first place, so I'd avoid the large multi-functional grip. The Leica Thumb Support M11 is the sweet spot—it gives you way better control during manual focus without making the camera feel like a chunky DSLR. As for power, iirc the M11 battery life is actually incredible. I rarely need a spare Leica BP-SCL7 Lithium-Ion Battery, though it's nice for peace of mind if youre shooting 1000+ shots a day. I'd highkey hold off on the Leica Visoflex 2 unless youre struggling with focus on fast glass like a Noctilux. Tbh, I'd put that money toward a nice Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 to keep the body safe from dings. It’s a decent option that balances protection and style. gl!

The M11's aluminum top plate is actually pretty prone to dings, which matters because repair costs are literally insane. i think prioritizing a full-body protective skin is better than a bulky grip. unfortunately, i've had issues with expensive cases not actually covering the corners well enough!! i'm not 100% sure but i heard the internal buffer handles the 60MP files fine anyway. peace!!

In my experience, the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-M11 is a better technical choice than the bulky grip for keeping that slim M-profile. It’s solid brass and feels reallyyy premium for manual focus leverage. Tbh, dont waste money on a second battery yet—the M11 power efficiency is highkey amazing. I’d grab an Expert Shield Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Leica M11 instead; same quality for way less. Get protection first, then see if you *actually* need the Visoflex! gl
