Hey everyone! I finally did it—after months of debating and saving, I just picked up a brand new Leica M11. Coming from a Sony mirrorless background, I'm absolutely loving the rangefinder experience so far, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of accessories available in the Leica ecosystem. Since this was such a significant investment, I want to make sure I’m protecting the body and optimizing my workflow without just buying things for the sake of the brand name.

I'm particularly curious about a few things. First, do you find the Visoflex 2 to be an essential purchase, or is the rangefinder sufficient for most street photography? Also, given the M11's impressive internal storage and improved battery life, do most of you still carry multiple spare batteries and high-speed SD cards, or is that overkill now? I’m also on the hunt for a minimalist strap and perhaps a half-case that offers protection without adding too much bulk to the slim profile.

I’ve seen everything from Thumbie grips to specialized soft-release buttons, but I’d love to hear from actual owners. What gear has genuinely improved your shooting experience or saved your camera from a mishap? What are the absolute must-have accessories you’d recommend for a daily-driver M11 setup?

yo, congrats on the M11! since it's such a HUGE investment, i'm always a bit paranoid about accidental drops or scratches. honestly, i think you should focus on safety-first gear before anything else.

here's what i recommend comparing:
- Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap vs. Slim Leather Straps: the PD anchors are literally lifesavers for security, even if they're not as "leica-chic" as some of the leather options out there.
- Arte di Mano Half Case: it's pricey but basically the gold standard for protection. it adds a bit of thickness that makes the camera easier to hold securely.
- ProGrade Digital 128GB SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold Card vs. Internal Storage: i'd definitely run a card for redundant backup. i'm always cautious about digital failure, so i double up just in case...

basically, i'd stick to the rangefinder for street and spend the money on a solid strap and card instead. gl with the new rig! 👍

Totally agree with the above! The M11 battery is seriously a beast compared to the M10. Ngl, I barely ever touch my spare. If youre looking to save cash but want solid protection, definitely grab the Expert Shield Crystal Clear Screen Protector for Leica M11. Also, for a minimalist strap that doesnt break the bank, the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap is amazing cuz you can swap it between bodies so easily!! Good luck!

Congrats on the M11! Coming from Sony, the biggest thing you’ll notice is the sensor is basically NAKED when you swap lenses since there’s no shutter curtain protection. Honestly, the most ESSENTIAL accessory for a daily driver isn't a fancy leather case—it’s a DIY maintenance kit. I highly recommend getting a Giottos Rocket Air Blower and a VisibleDust Sensor Clean Kit. Learning to clean your own sensor is a total game changer because sending it back to Wetzlar for a simple cleaning is a huge pain. If you want protection without the bulk, I actually prefer the DIY route over a half-case. I put small strips of 3M Professional Gaffer Tape on the baseplate and around the strap lugs. It prevents scratches and adds some grip without ruining the slim profile. For a minimalist strap, look at the Street Strap 46-inch Camera Strap. It’s just simple nylon, super strong, and you can wrap it around your wrist easily. It keeps the focus on the camera itself rather than the "bling" of the accessories. Focus on the workflow and the rest will fall into place tho!

In my experience, the rangefinder is 100% enough for street. Ngl, the Leica Visoflex 2 Viewfinder is cool for ultra-wides or long lenses, but it kinda ruins the slim profile. Coming from Sony, you'll probably enjoy the rangefinder's simplicity more tbh!

For protection and carry, here's how I'd break it down:
Option A: Leica M11 Protector - Black Leather vs Option B: Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 vs Option C: Artisan & Artist Silk Cord Strap ACAM-301N.

Pros/Cons: The Leica case is slim but basic. The Oberwerth has a wayyy better feel and grip, tho it's pricier. The Silk Cord strap is the best for minimalism cuz you can wrap it round your wrist in a sec.

Best choice? Skip the EVF for now, get the Artisan & Artist Silk Cord Strap ACAM-301N, and maybe one spare Leica BP-SCL7 Lithium-ion Battery. The internal storage is massive, so just use a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II card for backup. Cheers!

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year. Honestly, the Leica BP-SCL7 Lithium-Ion Battery is sooo much better than the older ones, so I dont carry spares. Technically, I just rely on internal storage but keep a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II card for backup. For a slim setup, the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-M11 grip is actually a lifesaver for one-handed shooting. Works well! gl
