I just treated myself to a new Leica M11, and I’m absolutely loving the experience so far! However, it’s a big investment, and I want to make sure I have the right gear to protect it and improve the handling. I’m already considering the Visoflex 2 because I struggle with the rangefinder sometimes, and I’m torn between a half-case or just a simple thumb grip for better ergonomics. Also, is a screen protector essential, or does the glass hold up well on its own? I’d love to hear from fellow M11 owners about what's actually worth the money and what’s just fluff. What are your absolute essential accessories for daily shooting?
oh man, huge congrats on the M11!! seriously, you’re gonna LOVE it. I’ve been shooting Leica for like 15 years now and honestly, the M11 is peak digital M for me. but you’re totally right to worry about protection cuz it’s basically a piece of jewelry that takes photos lol. For your situation, safety is everything. Since others already mentioned the grip and batteries, here is my veteran take on what’s actually essential for long-term reliability and keeping that investment safe: * **Screen Protection:** Highkey, just get one. Even if the glass is tough, micro-scratches happen sooo fast and kill the resale value. I use the Expert Shield Glass Screen Protector for Leica M11 and its basically invisible. * **Lens Safety:** Seriously, don't skip this. I’ve dropped my kit before and a filter saved my glass. Get a B+W 46mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 010M Filter—it’s top-tier glass so it wont mess with your image quality but adds that extra layer of security.
* **Storage Reliability:** Those 60MP files are HUGE. To avoid any weird camera freezes or slow write times - which can actually corrupt files - I only trust the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II Card. I’ve used these for years and they’re rock solid.
* **Half-Case:** I know youre torn, but a leather half-case like the Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 gives you amazing grip AND protects the body from dings. Tbh it feels way better in the hand than cold metal and covers the bottom plate perfectly. Anyway, enjoy the new toy! Just make sure you get a good strap too so it doesn't hit the pavement... that would be a total nightmare. Peace! 👍
Ok so, for youre situation, the M11 is super sleek but realy slippery. Handling matters cuz micro-shake is real with that 60MP sensor. I've tried many setups and the Leica M11 Thumb Support is better than a case imo. Definitely get the Leica Visoflex 2—it’s got 3.7MP and makes nailing focus way easier. Also, grab a Leica Screen Protector for M11... it dont hurt to have protection. peace
honestly, i think the Leica M11 Hand Grip is way better than a case for handling fast glass. plus, definitely grab a spare Leica BP-SCL7 Lithium-Ion Battery!! gl
Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, I spent a fortune on official leather gear years ago and it wasnt as good as expected... it basically fell apart. Total letdown for the price. Highkey just get any leather strap or case from brands like Artisan & Artist or Oberwerth. * Go with boutique brands
* Skip the official accessories Save ur money for lenses instead... gl!
