Honestly I am so fed up with this 12-60mm kit lens that came with my GH5 it is driving me absolutely insane lately. I’ve been trying to shoot some indoor music sessions for local bands here in Seattle and the lighting is always just garbage but this lens makes it look ten times worse than it actually is because it’s so slow. Every time I try to zoom in even slightly the aperture drops and suddenly I’m at f5.6 and everything is just dark and muddy. I keep getting all this nasty digital noise even when I try to push the ISO but we all know the GH5 sensor isn't exactly a low light beast to begin with so I’m just struggling hard. I feel like I'm fighting the camera instead of actually filming anything good and I’m ready to just toss the zoom in a drawer and never look at it again. It is just so disappointing to spend all this time setting up shots only to realize the footage is basically unusable because of the noise floor.
I really need to move over to some fast primes but I’m honestly overwhelmed by the options out there and I don't want to waste more money on glass that isn't gonna give me that sharp cinematic look I’m actually after. I’ve heard people rave about the Leica ones but then other people say the Sigma f1.4 trio is the way to go for micro four thirds so I'm just stuck in this research loop and getting nowhere fast. My budget is probably around $1200 for maybe two or three lenses if that's even realistic because I need to get this sorted before a big documentary project I have starting next month. I’m mostly doing handheld work too so that adds another layer of stress.
Basically I need something that can handle low light better and give me a bit more background blur because right now everything just looks flat and amateurish.
I just want to be able to focus on the storytelling without worrying if my footage is gonna be a grainy mess when I get into the edit...
That kit lens is honestly a letdown in low light. Unfortunately, I had issues with expensive Leica glass not being as good as expected for the cost. Just grab the Sigma 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary for wide shots. Ngl, the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f1.7 ASPH is plenty sharp and way cheaper than the 1.4... save your money. The extra cash for the Leica version just isnt worth it.

> Should I stick with native Panasonic/Leica for the dual IS? Are you thinking about a speedbooster or strictly native glass? Let me know so i can suggest more. Ngl the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f1.7 ASPH is gonna be way better for dark venues.
