I'm heading on a trip soon and want a solid "all-in-one" lens to keep my kit light. I've looked at the Olympus 12-100mm f/4 and the Panasonic 14-140mm, but I'm struggling to choose. I need something sharp but portable. Which travel zoom offers the best balance of reach and image quality for a single-lens setup?
Quick question - what body are ur using? Honestly, the "best" lens depends on the camera's balance. Travel zooms basically trade aperture for reach, which keeps things light but hurts in low light... If ur budget-conscious:
* Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f/4.0-5.6 II (approx $550)
* Tamron 14-150mm f/3.5-5.8 Di III (approx $350) Do you need weather sealing, or is weight the main thing??
In my experience, if you can handle a bit of extra weight, literally nothing beats the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO. i've tried many zooms over the years and this one is seriously special... the sharpness is prime-level and the Sync IS is actually magic. basically lets you leave the tripod at home for most shots since you can hand-hold for like a full second. But yeah, if youre trying to keep ur kit as light as possible, the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. is way more portable and gives ur neck a break. it’s a solid 'jack of all trades' but its just not as sharp as the Oly. honestly, i'd go for the 12-100 every time. it's the GOAT for single-lens travel. gl!!
Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
