What are the best zoom lenses for Panasonic and Olympus bodies that wont make me want to quit photography entirely? Im honestly so fed up with my basic 14-42mm kit lens it is just so soft and the autofocus keeps hunting whenever I try to shoot my kids soccer games and its driving me crazy. I have a Panasonic G9 and an older Olympus body but I need something sharp that doesnt cost like two grand. I have maybe 800 bucks to spend before my trip to Colorado next month and I really dont want to come home with blurry garbage again like last time. Is the 12-40mm pro actually that much better or should I go with the Lumix 12-35mm...
Honestly, Im happy I upgraded to the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO for my trips. My old Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 II ASPH Power OIS didnt compare.
Late to the party but I wanted to jump in because you mentioned soccer. Honestly, you might want to consider that a standard zoom like a 12-40mm might not actually solve your problem for sports. Soccer fields are huge and 40mm is still pretty wide for catching a kid on the other side of the pitch. Just curious, are you more worried about the landscape shots in Colorado or the soccer games? Knowing which is the priority helps a ton because those are two very different needs. Since you are shooting on a Panasonic G9, I would suggest sticking with Panasonic glass to take advantage of the DFD technology and Dual IS. It makes a massive difference for autofocus tracking. Be careful with mixing brands for high-speed stuff like sports.
