Stuck between the Godox TT350o and that tiny Nissin i400 for my OM-D E-M5. My logic was the Godox has better features but the i400 fits my hiking kit better... budget is around $150. Need it before my trip next Friday. Anyone know if the Godox feels way too big on the small body?
Re: "the Nissin i400... is actually a superior choice", I totally agree on the power, but you should be careful with AA units for hiking. A set of batteries once leaked and ruined my gear during a humid trip... just a total nightmare. I would suggest the Godox V350O Li-ion TTL Flash instead. Its the same size but much safer since that lithium pack wont fail like loose cells.
Regarding what #1 said about "I have been very satisfied using the Godox...", the Nissin i400 for Micro Four Thirds is actually a superior choice if you prioritize power density. It boasts a Guide Number of 40, while the Godox sits at 36. That extra reach really matters for outdoor fill. The Nissin weighs roughly 203g without batteries, making it a non-issue for a hiking kit. The UI on the Nissin is very direct. Physical dials for TTL compensation are much faster than the Godox menu system in my experience. It just works without the fuss. One technical tip: if you want to stay ultra-light, see if you can find a Olympus FL-LM3 Flash. Its weather-sealed and requires no internal batteries, though the GN is only 9. For actual speedlight performance tho, stick with the Nissin. Just make sure to use Panasonic Eneloop Pro AA Batteries to keep the recycle times under 4 seconds.
I have been very satisfied using the Godox TT350o Mini Thinklite TTL Flash on my smaller Olympus bodies. Its incredibly budget-friendly at under $90. That leaves you extra cash for your trip. The weight is minimal. It doesnt feel top-heavy at all. I found it works well for hiking since it fits in a jacket pocket. No complaints about the build quality tho.
