Looking for lens recommendations for my Nikon ZR. Any good suggestions?
For everyday shooting, I'd highly recommend starting with the Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S. 24-70mm f/2.8 S — The best mid-range zoom I've seen from anybody, but the 24-120mm gives you more reach while maintaining excellent image quality. It's perfect for travel and general photography.
If you're looking for prime lenses, the Z 50mm f/1.8 S is phenomenal - the Nikon Z 50/1.8 S is regarded as one of the best Z lenses from Nikon. For portraits, consider the Z 85mm f/1.8 S which offers beautiful bokeh and sharpness.
For wide-angle work, the Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is exceptional if you can handle the size and price. 14-24mm f/2.8 S — That Nikon managed to improve the old 14-24mm f/2.8G and make it smaller and lighter shows that there is something different when mount restrictions are relaxed. A more budget-friendly option is the Z 14-30mm f/4 S.
For telephoto, the Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is outstanding for sports and wildlife, while the Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 S gives you incredible reach. You can obsess about low level differences, but I'd tend to suggest that a 70-200mm f/2.8, 100-400mm f/4-5.6, and a 1.4x teleconverter are more than enough telephoto capability for most people.
Don't overlook third-party options either - I've been rocking the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 on my Z6 for car videos. Super versatile for different shots.
The ZR's Sensor based 5-axis Image Stabilization system which means that all of these lenses will be stabilized when used on ZR. Nikon claims that the image stabilization of ZR is effective up to 7.0 stops, so even non-VR lenses will be stabilized.
What type of photography are you most interested in? That would help narrow down the best recommendations for your specific needs!
The new Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II - Whether you're shooting stills or video, this lens shoots sharp and focuses fast over a useful focal range
Totally agree that the native glass is the way to go for peak performance, but honestly, you should look at what the third-party brands are doing right now. Basically, the market has shifted a lot lately and the third-party manufacturers are putting out stuff that really competes with Nikon’s own glass for the ZR. From a research perspective, you’re getting like 90% of the performance for way less money lol. I’m still a bit unsure about how the weather sealing compares across the different brands, but honestly, just get any of the newer lenses from the big third-party names and you'll be set. TL;DR: Nikon glass is great, but check out the third-party brands for the best value on your ZR.
Would love to know this too
