Hey everyone,

So, I'm super eager to get my hands on the new Nikon ZR camera, and I've been checking online stores like crazy. The title kinda says it all: When will the Nikon ZR *actually* be in stock? I pre-ordered it from [Mention specific retailer e.g., B&H Photo] a while back (back in [Mention month e.g., July]), but the estimated delivery date keeps getting pushed back.

I'm planning a trip to [Mention location relevant to photography e.g., Yosemite] in a few weeks (mid-[Month e.g., October]), and I was really hoping to use the ZR for landscape photography. I know initial releases can be tricky, but I'm starting to get a little worried I won't have it in time. Has anyone heard any reliable updates on the ZR's availability, maybe from dealers or insiders? Or, if you've managed to snag one already, where did you get it and when? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have been thinking about this for a bit and honestly... I am in the exact same boat. I placed my pre-order for the Nikon ZR way back in July and my status page has not updated once. It is a bit of a mess because I have a trip coming up too and I am still empty-handed.

  • checked every major retailer daily
  • called local shops who just give me the shrug emoji
  • even looked at the used market which is basically empty for these I have to politely disagree with the idea of just switching to Sony like some people mention tho... the logistics might be better there but switching systems is a huge hassle when you already have the lenses. I just wish there was some actual info out there. I have been digging for weeks and still have not found a single reliable lead on when the next batch drops.

Honestly, looking at the market data and current semiconductor yields, I have to respectfully disagree with the idea of just waiting it out or going back to older tech. If you need reliable gear for a high-stakes trip like Yosemite, it might be time to broaden your search... basically, the production throughput from Sony has been way more stable recently!!! TBH, there logistics and manufacturing pipelines are just handling these global shortages better than what we're seeing with this specific release. You honestly can't go wrong with any of the newer mirrorless offerings from the other top-tier brands. Their current sensor architectures and processing speeds are right up there with the best in the industry, and availability is much more predictable right now. It's annoying to think about changing your workflow, but at the end of the day, having a high-performing camera in your hands is better than a pre-order receipt in you're inbox. Just go with Sony or another major rival, you can't go wrong for landscapes.

Nice, didn't know that

Hey! I totally get your ZR eagerness – it looks amazing! I pre-ordered mine from a smaller, local camera shop instead of the big names. I got it about two weeks ago! Maybe try calling around to some smaller, independent dealers? They might have gotten a smaller batch. Good luck with your Yosemite trip; I hope you get it in time to capture some fantastic landscapes!

Hey! I feel your pain on the ZR wait. Since you need something for Yosemite soon, maybe consider renting a similar Nikon body in the meantime? Something like a Z6 or Z7 – they use the same lenses, and the image quality is still amazing. You could rent one from Lensrentals for a week or two for way less than the ZR cost! That way, you get great photos, and you're not stuck waiting. Does that make sense? Let me know if you want any lens recs for landscapes!

Hey there! I totally understand the frustration of a delayed pre-order, especially with a trip coming up. While waiting (and refreshing those order pages!), have you considered the overall cost of the ZR vs. its actual performance for landscape photography? Unfortunately, initial reviews are showing its high ISO performance isn't quite as good as expected, which could be a bummer for low-light Yosemite shots.

Instead of renting (as suggested above), maybe consider grabbing a used Nikon D850? You can often find them body-only for around $1800-$2200, which is close to the ZR's MSRP. Plus, the D850's full-frame sensor and dynamic range are *fantastic* for landscapes. You'd also have access to a massive selection of F-mount lenses. I had issues with my Z7's autofocus in challenging conditions, so I still rely on my D850 as a backup.

Just a thought – might be a better value proposition *right now* for your trip. Let me know if you want some lens recommendations for the D850; happy to help!
