honestly so fed up with these cheap third party flashes. my current one just died right in the middle of a reception yesterday and i missed the freaking cake cutting because it wouldnt recycle fast enough or maybe it just overheated idk. i use a d850 and i need something that is actually reliable for weddings because i have another one next saturday and i cant have this happen again. ive got maybe 400 bucks to spend tops. i just need to know which external flash is actually going to talk to my nikon properly without glitching out every five minutes... is the sb-700 still good or should i look at godox? i need an answer fast honestly because i have to order it tonight.
Id be cautious with the older Nikon units for weddings. The Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight is reliable but recycle times are slow. I would suggest the Godox V1-N Round Head Flash for your D850. Just be careful not to push it too hard at full power... those lithium batteries are fast but they still get hot during a long reception if you arent careful.
Seen this happen way too many times. Tbh if you want something that just works without those heat issues, try finding a Nikon SB-910 AF Speedlight. Ive used mine for years at weddings and they are absolute tanks. They talk to the D850 perfectly and wont quit on you during the ceremony. Used ones are well within your budget... totally worth it for the peace of mind.
Re: Id be cautious with the older Nikon units... spot on. Over the years, the Godox V860III-N TTL Li-ion Flash for Nikon has proven better technically:
