How do I share an Amazon shopping list with my family?

Im so annoyed right now because I have spent like forty minutes clicking around the amazon site and I feel like an absolute idiot. Im trying to organize this big family trip to a cabin in Hocking Hills next month and we need to coordinate all the supplies like trash bags and snacks and those big jugs of water so we dont end up with five of the same thing. We have about a five hundred dollar budget for the whole group and I dont want to waste it on double items. My logic was that I would just make a list and everyone could see it but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to actually send it to them so they can also add stuff?

I found the button that says create a list and I put a bunch of stuff on there already but then I got stuck. There is a little button that says invite but then it asks if I want them to view only or edit and I dont know if letting them edit means they can see my credit card or my home address or something like that because I really dont want my brother accidentally buying stuff on my account because he is terrible with technology too and honestly hes a bit of a klutz with buttons.

Also what happens if my mom doesnt even have an amazon account? Can she even see the list if I send her a link or does she have to sign up for everything and make a password? I tried googling it but all the instructions talk about alexa and echoes and we dont have any of that stuff we just use our phones and laptops. I just want a simple way for the four of us to look at one list and check things off as we buy them so we stay organized for the trip in July. Is that even possible or am I asking for too much from a website? I feel like I am clicking in circles and every time I think I found the right setting it just takes me back to my own shopping cart...

I went through this same mess for a beach trip last summer. It was a decent option once I figured it out.

  • Click Invite
  • Select Edit
  • Send link My brother added gear without seeing my card info, which was a relief. It works well enough, tho your mom might need an account to actually check items off...

Honestly, I've had so many issues with Amazon lists for group stuff. It's unfortunately not as good as it should be for coordinating a budget and the whole thing feels super clunky. The invite to edit thing is safe for your credit card info, so dont worry about that, but it's still a mess to navigate for non-tech people.

  • Your mom will definitely need her own account to see the list
  • The check-off system is laggy and people always end up double-buying stuff
  • Its way too easy to accidentally delete things when everyone is clicking around If you want to keep that five hundred dollar budget on track, just use any shared list from Google. Go with Google and you can't go wrong because it's so much simpler. Its basically foolproof and way better than the headache of clicking in circles on Amazon.
