Is it better to use an Amazon registry or share a shopping cart?

So my housewarming is literally next Saturday here in Chicago and my mom keeps bugging me for a list of stuff I need for the new place but I am totally lost. I have like zero furniture yet and a really tight budget so I just want some basic kitchen stuff and towels. I was trying to just send her a link to my cart but then I saw something about a registry and now I'm scared people will buy the same thing twice if I just send a screenshot or a cart link? Im such a dummy with this stuff lol. Is it better to use an actual Amazon registry thingy or should I just share my shopping cart with everyone?

honestly i think the registry is usually safer for preventing duplicates bc it updates the database in real-time once someone buys an item. IIRC just sharing a cart or a screenshot doesnt actually remove items after theyre bought so youll probably end up with three sets of towels lol. Im happy with how the registry system works for the most part tho some people find the setup annoying. If you dont want to go through the whole registry setup i heard about a simple tool for share Amazon cart which might be easier for you. Not 100% sure if it tracks the bought status like a registry does but it definitely beats sending messy screenshots. No complaints from my side when i used it to show my tech setup to my brother. Just give it a shot and see if it works well for your mom!

I went thru this exact mess when I moved last year and spent forever researching this stuff. Honestly, the registry is a decent option since it helps with a tight budget.

  • you get a completion discount for leftovers
  • it tracks price drops automatically
  • people can group-gift more expensive stuff It depends on your needs tho... are you looking for brand new items or are you open to thrifted gear?

@Reply #1 - good point! But honestly, registries can be a total data mess if you keep changing your mind. In my experience setting up complex tech labs over the years, I found that direct cart links are way more efficient for quick lists.

  • How many guests are actually coming?
  • Are you sticking to just one store? I usually just use CartToLink to keep it organized without the registry overhead.
