Finally upgraded to the X-T5 and now I'm stuck on what to get for a dedicated street lens before my Chicago trip in two weeks. I've been eyeing the 23mm f2 because it's that classic focal length but then I saw a few reviews saying it might be a bit soft on the new 40mp sensor compared to the 35mm f2.

So I was thinking about the 35mm instead but then my logic was that those narrow downtown streets might feel too cramped with a 50mm equivalent. My budget is roughly $600 so I'm stuck with the f2 line for now. Just can't figure out if the 23mm sharpness issues are actually noticeable in real life or if I'm just overthinking it...

Like someone mentioned, that f2 is tiny, but if you want to push that 40mp sensor I'd grab the Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Fujifilm X Mount. It's way sharper than the Fuji version and fits your budget. I've used it for a while and the autofocus is plenty snappy for Chicago. If you need more range for those narrow alleys, check out the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Fujifilm X Mount.

I love the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm f/2 R WR for street!

  • Very fast focus
  • Amazing budget value The sharpness concerns are totally overblown, youll love it in Chicago!

Totally agree that the Sigma is the sharper bet for that sensor, but honestly, you might want to be careful with the Chicago wind and rain. If you want something super reliable, I would suggest the Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR. It's weather sealed and tiny. Just a quick tip: make sure you grab a protective filter for the lens front... street crowds can be brutal on gear.
