I just bought this X-T5 and honestly I am so overwhelmed like I thought photography was supposed to be fun but I have spent three hours looking at lenses and I am more confused now than when I started. Sorry if this is a total noob thing to ask but I just dont get the numbers. I am going to Japan in three weeks and I really just want ONE lens that can do everything because I dont want to be that person fumbling with my bag while everyone else is walking away. My logic was that a bigger number means it zooms more? So like the 18-135 would be better than the 18-55? But then I saw people saying the 16-80 is better for travel because of some other reason I dont understand. I basically spent all my savings on the camera body so I only have like 700 dollars left for a lens which I know isnt a lot for this stuff. I just want to take pictures of temples and maybe some street food and people without it looking blurry. Is there like one magic lens that stays on the camera the whole time? Or am I dreaming? I keep looking at these charts and it just feels like another language and my brain is melting...
Saw this today. During my last trip, I realized weight matters as much as focal length when walking all day.
To add to the point above, I'm satisfied with these safe options:
> I basically spent all my savings on the camera body so I only have like 700 dollars left for a lens which I know isnt a lot for this stuff. Unfortunately, a 700 dollar budget is quite restrictive for a high-resolution body like the X-T5. It is a bit of a shame to pair such a capable sensor with glass that might not keep up. In my experience, many of the all-in-one zoom options are not as good as expected once you actually start looking at the fine details. They often suffer from soft corners that can really ruin a nice temple shot. You're right that bigger numbers mean more zoom, but they also usually mean more weight and less light. I need to ask a couple questions before suggesting anything. Are you prioritizing a long reach for distant subjects, or is a wider view for street scenes more important? Also, how much weight are you willing to carry around all day while walking through Japan?
Did this last week, worked perfectly
