I finally snagged a Z8 for my Glacier trip next month but now I'm stressing over the glass. I've seen the 14-24mm f/2.8 recommended everywhere but then some threads say the 20mm prime is sharper and better for weight. I'm worried about lugging a heavy zoom around.

What's actually the best landscape lens for this setup?

If youre hiking Glacier, weight is a real factor. These are the most practical options for a Z8:

Yo, congrats on the Z8! Absolute beast of a camera. Honestly, before you drop two grand on that 14-24mm S lens, be careful about overspending right before a big trip. Glacier is gorgeous but you will want some cash left for gas and bear spray lol. I would suggest looking at these budget-friendly alternatives instead:

  • Nikon NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 is basically the budget king for landscapes. It is way lighter than the pro zooms and fits standard 67mm filters which saves you a ton of money on polarizers.
  • Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S might actually be better for Glacier... sometimes 20mm is too wide for distant peaks. It is often on sale or available refurbished if you look around.
  • If you are set on a prime, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S is sick, but make sure to check the used market first. You can save 300 bucks easy. Just make sure to watch the weight. Those trails are no joke.
