I finally pulled the trigger on a Z8 after saving for like a year and now im staring at my old f-mount lenses wondering if I should just sell them all lol. Im planning a hiking trip to the Dolomites in late June and I need a solid wide angle for those huge mountain vistas. Im torn between the 14-24mm f/2.8 S and the 14-30mm f/4. The 2.8 is obviously the pro choice but its so heavy and expensive and I honestly dont know if I need that extra stop for landscapes if im using a tripod anyway. On the other hand the 14-30 takes normal filters which is a huge plus for my long exposures. Is the image quality gap really that big on a 45mp sensor?
Honestly, you are gonna be so happy with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S. This lens works incredibly well on the Nikon Z8 and it has been my go-to for hiking over the last year. Since you are heading to the Dolomites, saving weight is huge. That Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is a total tank, but carrying it up a mountain when you are already using a tripod feels like overkill. A few things that make the f/4 version a winner:
