I need to know which flash I should buy for my Sony A6400 because nothing makes sense right now and I'm honestly about to give up. I am trying to take photos of my sister's birthday party next month in Chicago and the indoor lighting at the venue is just terrible but every time I look at flashes online I get so overwhelmed with terms like TTL and HSS and honestly I have no idea what any of that means.

I bought a cheap one off Amazon last week and it doesnt even fit the top of my camera?? I feel so stupid. My budget is like $150 maybe $200 max if it actually works. What is the easiest one to use for a total beginner who just wants better light?

TL;DR: Get the Godox TT685II-S TTL Flash for Sony! It is specifically built for the Sony Multi-Interface shoe so it actually fits and works perfectly with your A6400 logic. Honestly, dont stress about the jargon! TTL basically means the flash is smart and sets the power automatically based on what the lens sees. It is amazing for parties where people are moving around! I have used this exact setup and the recycle times are fantastic. You get a Guide Number of 60 which is tons of power for dark Chicago venues! If you want to save on buying AAs, check out the Godox V860III-S TTL Li-Ion Flash for Sony instead. It uses a lithium pack that lasts forever, tho it hits the top of your budget. Both are incredible value compared to the way more expensive Sony brand ones!

Saw this post earlier today but just getting a chance to chime in. Over the years ive tried just about every flash under the sun. Honestly you dont need to spend a fortune for a birthday party. If you want something that just works without the headache look for a Sony HVL-F32M External Flash. Being native gear means it talks to your camera perfectly without any weird glitches. My biggest tip tho... dont ever point the flash directly at your sisters face unless you want that deer in headlights look. Point it at the ceiling or a wall behind you. Bouncing the light is the secret to making indoor photos look professional. If that Sony is too pricey the Godox TT350S Mini Flash for Sony is basically the gold standard for budget beginners. It uses AAs which are easy to swap mid-party.

@Reply #1 - good point! Just be careful with the weight of that one. I would suggest the Godox V350S Li-ion Flash for Sony because its lighter and the battery is more reliable.
