agreeing with oezwezkuwg here... the r50 v is solid but you gotta be smart about the setup. ive been really happy with the performance since the update. works well as long as you dont try to cut corners on the gear that actually keeps it running.
tbh it is incredibly exhausting navigating these black friday sales because they almost always push those bloated bundles filled with total junk. i have been through this cycle so many times and it is honestly a nightmare for anyone just trying to get a reliable setup. you see a decent price on the camera and suddenly you are being upsold on third-party batteries that dont even communicate with the body correctly or chargers that run way too hot. it is a serious concern with the higher power draw of 10-bit recording. using those cheap generic power bricks or knock-off batteries is such a gamble for your hardware. i have seen people deal with overheating issues and even fried ports just because they tried to save a few bucks on the accessories included in those holiday specials. it is just frustrating that the actual cost of a safe, functional kit is never what they show on the sticker.
So which one to buy, R50 V or Nikon Z50 II or Sony ZV-E10 II?
For video/content creation, the Sony ZV-E10 II (26MP, July 2024) is excellent with its compact size and vlogging features. The Canon R50 V (March 2025) offers 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording and 4K 60fps, making it powerful for video. The Nikon Z50 II (November 2024) provides solid all-around performance with weather sealing. Choose the Sony for portability/vlogging, Canon R50 V for advanced video features, or Nikon for durability and photography balance.
How is this camera compared with R50?
The R50 V is a video-first redesign of the original R50, sacrificing some photography conveniences (like the viewfinder and grip) for enhanced video capabilities and creator-friendly features.
