Hey everyone!
So, I'm really tempted by the Canon EOS R1, but it's a serious investment, and I'm trying to be smart about it. I've been keeping an eye on camera prices for a while, and I've noticed that sometimes, even brand new models can see some pretty significant fluctuations in price, especially in the first few months after launch.
I'm wondering if anyone here has been tracking the price history for the R1 since its announcement or release? I'm particularly interested in seeing if there have been any early dips or if it's been pretty stable. Knowing this would really help me decide on the best time to pull the trigger. Did anyone snag it at a surprisingly good price early on, or has it held its value consistently? I'm hoping to avoid buying it right at its peak if there's a chance it might drop a bit soon.
Has anyone seen any patterns or trends in its pricing so far? Any insights would be super helpful!
Great info, saved!
Just found this thread today! @Reply #5 - good point! Honestly, I've been obsessing over the sensor tech in the Canon EOS R1 since the announcement. I'm a total spec nerd and I've been comparing it to the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and my old Canon EOS R3. I went through a similar dilemma when the R3 launched. I actually built my own external battery rig to get more juice for long shoots back then! Tbh, the R1 price is gonna stay high because that DIGIC Accelerator chip is just insane for AF tracking. If you need 40fps and that tank-like build, nothing else touches it. It is amazing! But ngl, the R5 II is tempting for that 45MP resolution if you do any cropping. I ended up biting the bullet on the R1 because I love that cross-type AF for erratic subjects. It's fantastic! I don't see the price moving much soon tho, Canon is usually super strict with pricing on their flagship stuff for at least the first year...
Hey there! Oh man, the R1 is definitely a beast, and I totally get wanting to time your purchase right. Honestly, from my own experience with Canon's pro-level bodies, the early days can be a bit... unpredictable price-wise.
When the R3 first came out, I was super excited to grab it, but I snagged it right around launch. It was a *lot* of money, and while I love the camera, I actually saw a few decent bundle deals pop up maybe 2-3 months later that would have saved me a bit. It wasn't a huge drop, but enough to make me think, "Hmm, maybe I should have waited a *tiny* bit."
For the R1, since it's also a top-tier camera, I'm not expecting massive price drops anytime soon, especially if demand is high. It might be more about bundled accessories than a straight-up discount initially. My personal advice? Keep an eye on major retailers like B&H, Adorama, and Canon's own site. If you see a bundle with a lens or a memory card that you were going to buy anyway, that's probably your best bet for early savings. Waiting *too* long might mean missing out on stock if it's popular! It's a tough call, I know. Good luck with the decision!
Hey there! Oh man, the R1 is definitely a beast, and I totally get wanting to time your purchase right. Honestly, from my own experience with Canon's pro-level bodies, the initial pricing tends to be pretty firm, especially for bleeding-edge tech like the R1. They're usually not the cameras that see immediate price drops a few months out. Think about how the R3 launched – it held its value pretty consistently for a good while.
What I've seen more often with these high-end bodies is that price fluctuations really come into play with bundles, special offers from retailers (like a free lens or memory card), or eventually, when a successor is announced. It’s less about a direct price cut on the body itself in the first 6-12 months and more about added value or waiting for a slightly older, but still very capable, model to go on sale when the next big thing drops.
So, to answer your question directly, I haven't seen any significant early dips for the R1. If you're eager to get your hands on it, I'd say focus on looking for retailers offering bundles or maybe even consider a certified pre-owned option down the line if you're comfortable with that. It's a serious investment, for sure, and waiting might just mean missing out on its peak performance for your projects. Good luck with the decision!
Hey there! So, about the R1's price... I've gotta be honest, I've had some issues with Canon's pricing on new bodies before. They tend to hold their value really well at launch, which is frustrating when you're trying to snag a deal. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any big early dips for the R1 yet. Honestly, for that kind of investment, I'd seriously consider looking at the used market after a few months, or maybe even considering the R5 if the price difference is significant. Sometimes, getting a slightly older but still amazing model can save you a bundle and offer better value for your money. Just my two cents!
