just got an EOS R100 and Im so pumped but totally lost. my logic was it comes with everything but then I saw people talking about:

  • extra batteries
  • straps

I have $150 and no clue what is actually essential before my Grand Canyon trip... sorry for the dumb question lol but what should I buy first?

Saw this today, congrats on the R100. Honestly, for $150 you can get a lot if you are smart about it. I am very satisfied with my budget setup and it hasnt failed me yet.

Late to the party but honestly, most cheap SD cards are unfortunately prone to failing. I had issues with generic ones before... just not as reliable as you need. Quick question tho, what are you using for storage? You should grab a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30 and a Hoya 49mm NXT Plus UV Filter. Youre gonna love that camera for the trip tho!

Like someone mentioned, that polarizer is key! I remember my first desert shoot where I ignored payload capacity... my gear just wouldnt stay still in the wind. Such a nightmare!

  • Grab any tripod from Manfrotto Tripod
  • Get a carrying solution from Peak Design Bag Both brands have amazing build quality. Honestly, having that extra stability for your R100 is gonna be fantastic for those sunset shots!

I am so satisfied with how my current setup performs under load. A voltage drop mid-shoot once caused me to lose files because the mah was just too low for the ambient temp.

  • High-capacity spares keep me happy for long durations
  • A custom strap works well for ergonomics There are no complaints now since my gear handles the 7.2v draw much better than the stock cell.

TL;DR: Buy a circular polarizer. Im satisfied with how well it cuts glare and makes canyon colors pop. Avoid cheap ones tho; they degrade image quality and add weird color tints.
