Which ND filters are best for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3?

I just picked up the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 a few weeks ago for a trip I have coming up to some sunny coastal areas. While the 1-inch sensor is absolutely incredible, I'm really struggling with that jittery look in my daytime footage. I know I need to follow the 180-degree shutter rule to get that smooth, cinematic motion blur, but at 24fps, my shutter speed is way too high without some glass in front of the lens.

I've been looking at a few different brands, but I'm worried about color shifting or the magnets not being strong enough when I'm moving the gimbal around quickly. I've heard a few conflicting things about these options:

  • The official DJI ND set
  • Freewell (specifically their Mega or All Day kits)
  • PGYTECH variable ND filters

My main concern is finding a set that doesn't add a weird green or magenta tint to the skin tones, especially since the Pocket 3 handles colors so well out of the box. I'm also curious if anyone has had issues with the gimbal calibration failing when a heavier filter is attached. I'd hate to put stress on the motors.

Does anyone here have hands-on experience with these specific brands for the Pocket 3, and which set would you recommend for someone shooting mostly in bright, direct sunlight?

Honestly, I would skip the official DJI set and go straight for the Freewell All Day 6-Pack ND Filters for DJI Osmo Pocket 3. You get way more variety for the price compared to buying single filters or the pricey VNDs. I havent had any issues with gimbal calibration or weird color tints. It is definitely the best bang for your buck if you are shooting in bright sun.

Just saw this thread! I was super worried about motor stress too, so I eventually grabbed the NiSi DJI Osmo Pocket 3 ND Filter Set 4-Pack. I found that lightweight fixed filters are better for the gimbal than heavy VNDs because they dont mess with the balance. The color accuracy is actually insane, basically zero tint issues in my experience. It is a bit pricier, but keeping those motors healthy is totally worth it.

Jumping in here because I went through a whole trial and error phase with my Pocket 3 filters last month. I actually started with the PGYTECH Osmo Pocket 3 VND Filter 2-5 Stop because I loved the idea of not swapping glass every time the clouds moved. While the convenience is amazing, I did notice a tiny bit of cross-polarization when I was filming at high noon near the ocean. It wasnt a dealbreaker, but for that super clean skin tone you're after, I eventually switched over to the K&F Concept Osmo Pocket 3 ND Filter Kit 4-Pack ND8 ND16 ND32 ND64. The technical side of these magnets is actually pretty interesting. The PGYTECH ones have a slightly more recessed design that feels a bit more secure when the gimbal is doing its little dance during startup. Ive had zero issues with motor stress or calibration errors with them because they're specifically weighted for the Pocket 3 motors. Couple of quick tips for ya:

  • If you go the VND route, make sure you arent using them at their absolute max rotation, as that is where the color shift usually creeps in.
  • Always check if the filter is seated perfectly flat. Even a tiny gap can cause a weird reflection flare that looks like a smudge on your footage. The K&F filters really surprised me with how neutral they stayed. No weird green tint in the shadows, which is usually where the cheap glass fails. Good luck with the trip, that coastal light is gonna look insane with the right shutter speed.

Stumbled on this today... quick question tho, are you planning to use the DJI wide angle lens at the same time? Stacked glass usually causes motor errors or calibration issues. If you're worried about weight and safety, honestly maybe try the Neewer DJI Osmo Pocket 3 ND Filter Set 4-Pack. They're really light so the gimbal stays happy. Just make sure the magnet is totally flush before you start moving!
