I’ve recently fully committed to the Fujifilm ecosystem with an X-T5 and a few primes, but I’m struggling to find the right way to carry them. Since the X-series is so compact, my old DSLR backpack feels way too bulky and overkill. I’m looking for a stylish shoulder bag—maybe something in canvas or leather like a Billingham or ONA—that doesn't scream 'expensive camera inside' for street photography. Also, any suggestions for a slim, comfortable neck strap that matches the retro aesthetic? I've looked at Peak Design, but I'm curious if there are better artisan options. What bags and straps are you guys using to keep your setup lightweight and accessible?
Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year when I finally got my X-T5. Tbh, I reallyyy wanted to love those high-end leather bags, but basically found the weight-to-protection ratio didn't make sense for long walks. I needed something low-key.
Technical stuff I noticed:
- Canvas breathes better against your hip than leather, which is huge for street photography.
- Soft-sided bags like the Domke F-5XB RuggedWear Shoulder Bag mold to your body; this keeps the center of gravity closer to you, making the kit feel lighter.
- For straps, heavy leather is overkill for Fuji’s weight; a slim Gordy's Camera Straps Leather Neck Strap with O-ring works well cuz it's flexible and easy to wrap around your wrist.
Anyway, I'm super happy with how low-profile my setup is now... honestly no complaints. good luck! 👍
sooo, i actually had a bad time with the ONA The Bowery Leather Camera Bag—those metal bits scratched my gear, honestly. so frustrating... i guess the Billingham Hadley Digital Camera Bag is safer since it's waterproof, but it still feels kinda bulky. for straps, i tried a cheap one and it almost snapped!! maybe look at the Gordy's Camera Straps Adjustable Neck Strap instead?
TL;DR: go Billingham over ONA for safety.
Nice, didn't know that
tbh just grab a Domke. their canvas is basically indestructible and way cheaper than leather. for straps, Gordy's is the way to go... best artisan value for fuji gear. gl!!
