Hey everyone! I'm planning a photography trip through the Dolomites soon and I'm trying to slim down my gear. I'm currently shooting with a Fujifilm X-T5 and I usually have the 10-24mm f/4 and the 33mm f/1.4 in my bag.
My current tripod is way too bulky for long days on the trail, so I need something lightweight that still feels sturdy. I'm also looking for high-quality filters for landscape work, specifically ones that don't cause weird color shifts with Fuji's X-Trans sensor.
What are you guys using for your travel setups that balances weight and stability?
I totally agree on the stiffness factor, mountain wind is no joke. I've found ditching the center column is the safest bet for stability. Look at the Leofoto LS-284C Ranger Series Carbon Fiber Tripod. It is way more rigid for long exposures since there's less vibration. For filters, the NiSi 72mm HUC IR ND1000 10-Stop Filter is solid because its IR coating prevents the magenta color shifts that Fuji sensors sometimes catch during high-density shots.
Dolomites sounds like a dream trip tbh. For the X-T5 and that 10-24mm, you really need to prioritize stiffness-to-weight ratio because of the wind up in the mountains. I have been using the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber for about a year now. It weighs just 2.8 lbs (1.27 kg) but has a 20 lb weight capacity, which is total overkill for your setup but keeps things rock solid during long exposures. The packed diameter is basically the size of a water bottle, so it actually fits inside my pack instead of hanging off the side and catching on branches. Regarding filters, Fuji X-Trans sensors can be picky with color casts, especially in the shadows. I highly recommend the Breakthrough Photography X4 6-Stop ND Filter 72mm. Most cheap filters lean heavy into magenta or blue, but these are statistically the most neutral ones I have measured. They use SCHOTT B270 glass and have a really solid knurled edge so you can actually get them off when it is cold and you are wearing gloves. If you want something even lighter for the tripod, check out the Benro Tortoise 14C Columnless Carbon Fiber Tripod. It is columnless, so it gets lower to the ground and feels way more rigid than traditional travel sticks. Good luck out there, those peaks are gonna look amazing with that 10-24mm wide angle view.
