I’m beyond excited to finally have the Fujifilm X100VI in my hands! After the long wait, it feels amazing, but now I’m looking at it and wondering what I actually *need* to get the most out of it without turning this compact beauty into a bulky rig.
I’ve heard conflicting things about weather sealing—is it true I absolutely need to buy an adapter ring and a protective filter to make the lens fully weather-resistant? I'm also a bit concerned about the ergonomics. Since the body is quite slim, I’m debating whether a thumb grip or a small leather half-case is worth it for better handling, or if those just get in the way of its pocketability.
Another thing on my mind is the battery life. With the new IBIS and that high-res 40MP sensor, I’m worried about how long the standard NP-W126S batteries actually last during a full day of street shooting. I’m trying to keep my initial 'extra' spend under $200 if possible, focusing strictly on the essentials that improve the shooting experience or protect the glass.
For those of you who have been using the X100 series for a while, what are the top 3 accessories you think are absolutely non-negotiable for a new owner?
For your situation, i’d definitely prioritize protection first. you’re right to be cautious about the weather sealing... dust getting into that fixed lens is basically a nightmare to fix. to seal it safely on a budget, I suggest the Haoge LUV-X54W 2-in-1 Metal Lens Hood with Built-in MC UV Filter. It’s only about $25 and keeps the glass protected without adding crazy bulk. for ergonomics, i think a thumb grip is way better than a half-case for pocketability. I’m satisfied with the Haoge THB-X2B Thumb Up Rest for Fujifilm X100V X100VI. It makes the grip feel much more secure for like $15. battery-wise, that IBIS definitely eats power faster. I’d grab the SmallRig NP-W126S USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery 2-Pack. It’s basically $35 and works well for a full day. total spend is way under $100 tho. gl! peace
I've seen so many people skip the weather sealing and end up with dust spots on their images that they cant get rid of. Its a fixed lens, so if dust gets in, the camera is basically compromised unless you pay for a professional teardown. In my experience, the NiSi Fujifilm X100VI Filter System is the most reliable way to seal that front element without degrading the image quality of that new 40MP sensor... cheap glass will soften your photos. Also, consider a high-quality SD card like the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I. People dont realize that slow cards keep the camera's processor running longer to clear the buffer, which eats into your battery life more than you'd think. And seriously, get a screen protector. I like the Expert Shield Glass Screen Protector for Fujifilm X100VI because it's cut perfectly. I've ruined a screen before just by having the camera swing against my belt buckle. Better safe than sorry.
> I’m trying to keep my initial 'extra' spend under $200 if possible Building on the earlier suggestion, I have to say I've been quite disappointed with how many people prioritize aesthetics over actual performance. Unfortunately, many new owners make the mistake of buying cheap filters just to seal the lens. I had issues with ghosting and lost sharpness on my last body because of a budget kit... it really isnt worth compromising that 40MP sensor. You should also be very cautious about those leather half-cases. While they look the part, theyre not as good as expected for a full day of shooting. They often trap heat when the IBIS is active and just make the battery door a hassle to access. Speaking of which, you wont get far with just the standard battery. The power draw on this model is significantly higher than older versions. Its easy to blow your budget on things that actually make the camera worse. Basically, dont waste money on accessories that add bulk without adding real utility... just focus on power and maybe one high-quality piece of glass if you really need the sealing.
