Hey! Getting into street photography with my X-T4. So many Fuji lens options! What's the sharpest, most versatile street lens you'd recommend if my budget's around $800?

TL;DR: Grab any Fuji pancake lens and learn to handle your own maintenance and sensor cleaning. Honestly, street photography is *brutal* on gear. Between the grit and the constant handling, I stopped worrying about finding the one "perfect" lens and started focusing on DIY servicing. Tbh, you should just grab any of the compact pancake lenses from the Fuji lineup. They’re great for staying low-profile, and since they’re native, you won't deal with weird flange distance issues or mount play. I actually save a ton of money by doing my own wet sensor cleans and checking for lens decentering myself instead of paying for professional service every few months. It’s a total game changer for a street setup. Basically, if you stick to the native small-form-factor glass, you’ll have plenty of budget left for a solid maintenance kit. Knowing how to check your own back focus is way more useful for getting sharp street shots than spending your whole $800 on a single piece of glass haha. Just get out there and shoot!

Ive been shooting with the X-T4 for a while now and honestly, if you want something that stays on your camera for years, you should look at these two. I dont think there is one perfect lens but after swapping gear around, these stood out to me for long-term use.

  • Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R: This is basically a legend. Its not as fast at focusing as the newer WR lenses, but the way it renders images is just different. It has this character that makes street shots look more like film. Long term, the external aperture ring is great, though the autofocus motor is a bit noisy which might be a bit annoying if you like stealth.
  • Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR: This one is pretty much the ultimate walk-around lens for me. Its so thin that the X-T4 feels way less bulky in my hand. Its sharp enough for most stuff and having that 40mm equivalent field of view feels very natural once you get used to it. Tbh, its the one I grab when I dont want to think about gear. Both are well within your 800 budget. I guess it really depends if you want that f1.4 look or the total portability.

Been there! The Fuji 23mm f/2 WR nails it for street. Weather-sealed, compact, and I snagged mine used for around $450. Super sharp for the price.

Technically, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN excels. Its MTF charts show exceptional sharpness, even wide open. Chromatic aberration is minimal. While not Fuji-branded, its optical performance justifies the compromise, and it's often found under $400. Happy with mine; works well for street, no complaints about image quality.

Hey! Street photography's awesome! For your X-T4, check out the used market! Seriously. You can snag a fantastic Fuji 35mm f/2 for WAY under budget. It's super sharp, compact, and leaves you cash for, like, gas for weekend drives! 😉 Worth a look, right?

Consider the Fuji 23mm f/2. Smaller size means less conspicuous shooting, keeping you safer. I've had mine for 3 years; no complaints, sharp enough, and it works well for street.
