I just got the Lumix S5II because everyone said it was great for video but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. I'm leaving for a trip to Tokyo in like four days and I realized I only bought the camera body and no lens... I feel so stupid. I need one lens that can basically do everything because I dont want to be switching things out while walking around. My budget is around 900 bucks which I hope is enough? I keep seeing things about L-mount and full frame and it's making my head spin. Does anyone know what is the best zoom lens that works for everything like people and buildings? I really need help fast so I can order it today...
> I need one lens that can basically do everything Building on the earlier suggestion, the Panasonic Lumix S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 MACRO O.I.S. is a practical option. It'll cover a broad focal range and stay within your budget.
Stumbled on this today and I love the S5II! I've used mine in some really challenging environments and it's never failed. For maximum safety and reliability, I recommend looking at a pro-grade option:
Stick to native glass for the best reliability. In my experience, the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS is the safest choice for a one-lens trip. It handles wide shots and portraits easily. If thats too pricey, the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a solid runner up, though it lacks the range. I've used many zooms and the 24-105 just works. Dont risk it.
@Reply #1 - good point! But honestly, Tokyo is gonna be absolutely amazing!! I remember my first trip there with a heavy kit and I regretted it so much... my neck was killing me by day three lol. Since you're new to the S5II, I'd say stay away from the heavy stuff and keep it light so you actually enjoy the city. The autofocus on this camera is fantastic so you really want a lens that can keep up with it while you're exploring! Here are two I think would be perfect for your budget:
