I just finally got my hands on a new Leica Q3 and I am absolutely in love with it! However, I am a bit paranoid about scratching the base while out shooting. I am looking for a high-quality leather half case that is both stylish and functional for daily use.

I have a few specific requirements in mind:

  • Direct access to the battery and SD card compartment.
  • A design that doesn't block the tilt screen movement.
  • High-quality leather that will age well and develop a nice patina.

I have been looking at brands like Oberwerth and Arte di Mano, but I would love to hear from actual owners. Does anyone have a favorite case that fits the Q3 perfectly without adding too much bulk?

Hey there! Oh man, I feel u on being paranoid about that baseplate. Honestly, i am a total beginner with Leica stuff and I was highkey scared of scratching my new Q3 the second I took it out of the box... it's just sooo expensive, right?? For ur situation, I would suggest looking at the Oberwerth Half Case for Leica Q3 with Hidden AirTag Pocket. I picked one up because I wanted something really reliable and safe. Here is why it works:

  • Access is everything: It has a magnetic hatch at the bottom so u can swap the Leica BP-SCL6 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery and get to the SD card without taking the whole case off. Tbh, i hate fumbling with gear in the field.
  • Screen movement: The leather is cut specifically so it doesnt block the tilt screen movement. You can still pull it out and angle it however u want for those low shots.
  • Protection: It covers the corners really well. Being a cautious user, i like that it adds a bit of grip too because the Q3 is kinda slippery without it. Basically, it is a decent option if you want to be conservative with gear safety. I mean, Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica Q3 is lowkey the gold standard for patina, but it often takes ages to ship and costs a fortune. Since youre worried about scratches right now, maybe go with Oberwerth? Idk but it worked for me. plus the leather is high quality and starting to age nicely already. gl!

> @Reply #2 - good point! honestly i was in the same boat wanting something that didnt cost as much as a lens... Coming back to this after looking at my own setup. The tilt screen clearance was a big worry for me because some cases are just way too chunky in the back. Ended up grabbing the Kaza Deluxe Leather Half Case for Leica Q3 and honestly its been perfect for daily carry. Its got that vintage vibe but the opening for the battery and SD card is super smooth. I have been using it for about three months now and the patina is already starting to look sweet around the grip. If you want something even more rugged tho, my buddy uses the Gariz Design Genuine Leather Half Case for Leica Q3 and that thing is solid. The metal baseplate built into the leather feels way more secure if youre the type to accidentally bang your camera on tables. Neither of these mess with the tilt screen at all which was a huge dealbreaker for me. Really happy with how they perform without adding a ton of weight.

Seconding those recs!! Since youre highkey paranoid about scratches, are you mostly worried about the baseplate, or do you need a full wrap to protect the corners and screen too??

@Reply #4 - good point! I am honestly in the exact same boat as you and it is driving me crazy. I have had my Q3 for over two months now and it mostly sits in my bag because I am too paranoid about the baseplate to actually take it out without a case. Every single option I look at has some kind of dealbreaker for me.

  • Some look stylish but offer zero protection on the corners.
  • Others are so thick that the tilt screen gets stuck halfway.
  • I am worried about spending hundreds on something that might not even fit properly. It is so frustrating trying to find something that is actually safe and functional. I have spent way too many hours comparing specs and still have nothing to show for it... be careful with those cheaper ones tho, I have heard the fit can be super loose and that just defeats the whole purpose.
