I recently picked up a Leica SL2, and while the 24-70mm zoom is a workhorse, I’m really looking to add a dedicated wide-angle prime for my landscape and interior shots. I’ve been eyeing the APO-Summicron-SL lineup, but the price tag is making me hesitate. Has anyone experimented with the Sigma Art or even the compact I-series on this body? I’m specifically looking for something in the 18mm to 24mm range that can truly handle the 47MP resolution without being too bulky for travel. I’m also curious if adapting M-mount glass is worth the loss of AF for that classic look. What are your go-to wide-angle primes for the SL2 that offer the best balance of sharpness and character?

In my experience, I've seen plenty of folks focus on sharpness while totally ignoring mount stress and weather sealing. I actually once had a heavy non-native lens fail me during a rainy coastal shoot because the seal wasnt tight enough—total disaster. For a 47MP beast like the Leica SL2, you really wanna prioritize lenses that wont compromise the body's integrity while youre traveling.

Here are my top picks for safety and performance:
- Panasonic Lumix S 24mm f/1.8 - It's super light, weather-sealed, and handles the resolution perfectly.
- Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary - Part of that I-series; its robust but small enough to not strain the mount.

Basically, staying native keeps ur AF reliable and ur internals safe from dust or moisture. Adapting is cool, but for serious landscapes, native glass is lowkey the way to go. Cheers!!

Sooo, basically, when youre shooting on a 47MP sensor like the SL2, youre balancing resolving power against sheer physical bulk. Hmm, I've had a different experience than the previous posters regarding M-mount—it's actually the secret to keeping this setup portable. Ngl, for landscapes or architecture, AF is lowkey overrated anyway.

I'd suggest looking at the Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 Nokton Aspherical M-mount. It gives you that classic look you mentioned without the Leica price tag. But if you need AF, I'd actually suggest a different approach than the bulky Art line. The Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary I-series is the real MVP. It’s way smaller than the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art and handles the resolution beautifully. Over the years, I've found the Art lenses are just too heavy for travel... honestly ur back will thank u!

TL;DR: M-mount for character and size, or the Sigma I-series for the best budget AF balance. 👍

Curious about one thing: are you doing more handheld shots or tripod-based landscapes? Highkey, the native glass is way too heavy and I had issues with the weight on long hikes... honestly, just get any of the Sigma I-series or Sigma Art primes. They’re way cheaper and basically handle the resolution fine, even if the autofocus isnt quite as snappy as I hoped for. gl!

In my experience, try these:
- Sigma (value)
- Leica (pricey)
- M-mount (hassle)

Basically, just get any wide Sigma... it's SO much more practical for ur SL2. lol
