so i finally got my m11 and honestly im so frustrated with this cheap case i bought off ebay. it fits like crap and i have to take the whole thing off just to get to the battery which defeats the whole purpose right? my logic was that i just spent a fortune on the body so i should save some cash on accessories but man was i wrong. it feels so flimsy and cheap.
im looking for something high end now under $300 for my street photography trip to Japan next month. i looked at arte di mano but the wait is too long. are there any other brands that feel premium but are in stock and have the battery door access?
^ This. Also, we've seen why cheap cases fail and why the Oberwerth is pricey. I used a Kaza Deluxe Leather Half Case for Leica M11 on a trip to Tokyo last year. It's solid, looks vintage, and the battery access actually works. Quick tip: check the interior lining for grit before installing to avoid scratching your finish... that Japan humidity can trap all sorts of stuff.
Re: "I went through the exact same thing" - yeah, me too.
^ This. Also, it is honestly so disappointing how many cases end up being glorified dust traps. I have had issues with mid-range leather that stretches, which basically turns the case into sandpaper for your M11 finish. Not a great way to treat such a nice camera.
I went through the exact same thing when I first got my M body. I thought I could save a few bucks on a generic case from an overseas seller but it was a total nightmare. I was always worried the loose fit would scratch the finish... honestly it just wasnt worth the stress. I eventually found a premium brand that keeps stock at a few retailers and it changed everything for me. The one I got fits like a glove and has that bottom access door you're looking for. It has been super reliable for my street walks and I'm really happy with how it's aged. No complaints at all. It feels so much more secure than those flimsy ones. Youll feel way more confident in Japan once you get something that actually protects the body properly... it's worth the extra money for the safety alone.
