I finally treated myself to a Leica M11, and while I absolutely love the minimalist design, I’m a bit nervous about accidental scratches and want a bit more grip during long walks. I’m looking for a high-quality leather half-case that fits like a glove without adding unnecessary bulk. It’s really important to me that the case allows for easy access to the battery and USB-C port, as I don't want to take it off every time I need to charge or swap cards. I’ve been eyeing brands like Arte di Mano and Oberwerth, but I’m curious if there are other artisanal options I’m missing. Which leather cases are you guys using that strike the best balance between protection and that classic Leica aesthetic?

I'd actually suggest a different approach - basically, you dont need to drop $500 to get that vibe. Honestly, I've been using the Lim's Design Leica M11 Italian Leather Half Case and it's amazing for the price (usually around $110). * Aluminum base for protection
* Full access to battery/USB-C
* Integrated grip Seriously, it's way more practical than the boutique stuff and fits realy well tho!

For your situation, I've actually gotta be pretty honest—I'm a bit of a nervous wreck when it comes to my gear. Honestly, I spent way too much money on my M11 to let it get banged up, but I've had some really disappointing experiences with "budget" cases that ended up leaving marks on the finish anyway... basically the opposite of what you want. Anyway, I've been using the Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M11 for a few months now. It's really expensive, but iirc it’s the only one that truly feels like it fits perfectly without adding that weird bulk. But look, you HAVE to get the version with the open bottom. I tried a cheaper leather one from a random brand first and it was a nightmare... had to take the whole thing off just to charge it. So annoying. Here's what I recommend if you're worried about safety like I am: * Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M11 with the "Open Battery" option. The leather is thin but super tough.
* Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M11 with Battery Access. It's a bit more "padded" feeling, which might be better if you're actually doing long walks like you mentioned.
* Vi Vante Matador Leica M11 Half Case. I've heard good things, though I'm still kinda hesitant about the grip. Seriously tho, just make sure whatever you get has that bottom flap for the USB-C. I'm still sorta new to the Leica world, but I've already learned that if a case makes it hard to use the camera, you're just gonna end up leaving it at home... which is not what you want for a piece of kit this nice. Plus, the extra grip is lowkey essential cuz the M11 is slippery as heck lol. Good luck!

Coming back to this... Quick question - do you use a thumb rest? It basically changes the grip geometry. I'm highkey worried about drops too, so I've been comparing: * Kaza Deluxe Leica M11 Leather Half Case: Thicker padding for shock absorption. * TP Original Leica M11 Leather Half Case: Slimmer, but less protection imo.
I'm still learning the specs, but basically, do you prioritize slimness or pure safety? Let me know! gl!

Just found this thread and ngl, I have the exact same issue. I've been dealing with this for like two months now and it's driving me crazy because I've been shooting Leica for decades and usually have a go-to setup, but the M11 geometry is just different. Regarding what #4 said about "Coming back to this... Quick question - do you use a thumb rest?", that's exactly where I'm stuck too because it ruins the fit of almost every half-case I've looked at.

  • So far the group has highlighted Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M11 for that high-end artisanal feel.
  • We've seen Lim's Design Leica M11 Italian Leather Half Case as a more practical metal-base option.
  • People also mentioned Kaza Deluxe Leica M11 Leather Half Case for those who want more shock absorption. I still don't have a solid answer tho and it's super frustrating. Honestly, I've even started looking into DIY leather-working tools to just modify a base case myself because nothing commercial seems to hit that sweet spot of slimness and accessibility without being a total pain. If you find something that actually works, please let me know...
