I’m looking for a versatile walk-around lens for my Nikon Z6. I mostly shoot street scenes and family events, so I need something portable. I’m considering the 24-70mm f/4 kit lens or a 35mm f/1.8 prime.
Does anyone have a favorite one-lens setup that balances weight and image quality for daily use?
yo in my experience compactness is vital cuz street scenes move fast. i recommend:
Curious about one thing: do u need low-light or zoom? I've found the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S is a $400 steal, but the Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S is $700.
tbh one thing people always overlook is the actual physical strain on the Z6 mount if you end up with a lens thats too front-heavy for a daily carry. you gotta be careful because those cheaper plastic-mount lenses can sometimes develop a bit of play over time if you're tossing them in a bag every day. i actually had a scare with a loose mount screw once while i was out at a park... spent like twenty minutes frantically searching the grass for a tiny piece of metal i couldnt even see. i think i looked like a crazy person to everyone walking by lol. anyway, just make sure you dont sacrifice too much build quality for the sake of saving a few ounces.
Hmm, I've had a different experience. Honestly, the kit zoom I first bought was a letdown and a total waste of cash cuz it just stayed in my bag... way too bulky for family stuff. I switched to a much cheaper, smaller lens and it literally saved my back.
