I just picked up a Nikon Z6II and I am a bit overwhelmed by the new setup. I definitely need advice on:

  • CFexpress Type B cards
  • Extra EN-EL15c batteries
  • FTZ II adapter

What are the absolute must-have accessories I should prioritize to get the most out of this camera?

I disagree about needing the priciest cards. Honestly, the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type B Silver Series 128GB is plenty fast. Also, SmallRig EN-EL15c USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery is way more budget-friendly.

Congrats on the Z6II. Its a solid workhorse once you get it dialed in. From my years with the Z system, the biggest bottleneck for most people is actually the data pipeline. My first big tip is to get a fast card and a matching reader. The ProGrade Digital 128GB CFexpress Type B Gold is basically the gold standard for reliability and speed. But dont make the mistake of just plugging your camera into the PC with a cable to offload files. It is way slower and drains your battery. Get the ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type B & SD Dual-Slot USB 3.2 Gen 2 Card Reader. It saves so much time during post-processing when you are moving hundreds of RAW files. Secondly, when it comes to power, stick to the Nikon EN-EL15c Rechargeable Li-ion Battery. I know the third-party ones are tempting because they are cheap, but Nikon is notorious for blocking them with firmware updates. Plus, the 15c version allows for USB-C Power Delivery, meaning you can actually charge or power the camera while you are using it if you have a decent power bank. If you have old F-mount lenses, definitely go for the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter over the original version. The lack of a tripod foot on the II makes it way more comfortable to hold and it wont interfere with your tripod plates. Basically, prioritize the card and the official battery first. Everything else can wait until you have spent a few weeks shooting.

If you want top performance, you gotta look at sustained write speeds. I highly recommend the Delkin Devices 128GB BLACK CFexpress Type B Memory Card because it wont throttle during high-bitrate video or long bursts. Also, look into the SmallRig L-Bracket for Nikon Z6II 2947. It keeps your sensor perfectly centered on a tripod when shooting vertical, which is technically superior for landscape work and pano stitching.
