Which flash is best suited for macro photography with a Nikon D850? I'm looking for precise control over lighting and the ability to illuminate small subjects effectively. Are ring flashes the best option, or are there other types of flashes that work well for macro photography? What features should I look for, and what are some recommended models?

Godox V1 is the best choice.

I use the Godox V860III. Works well.

For precise macro lighting with your D850, consider a dedicated macro flash system. Ring flashes can provide even illumination but can sometimes look flat. Twin flashes offer more directional control, mimicking natural light. Look for features like TTL metering, high-speed sync, and adjustable flash heads. Source 1 mentions using a Godox V850II with a diffuser, which is a popular option. Alternatively, consider the Nikon R1C1 or the Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 digital. Researching these options further will help you find the best fit for your needs.
