What are some reputable third-party flash options for my Nikon D780 that offer good performance and value? I'm open to alternatives to Nikon's own speedlights, but I want to ensure compatibility and reliability. Are there any specific brands or models that you recommend, and what are their strengths and weaknesses compared to Nikon flashes?

Been shooting with Nikons since the D700 days, and finding the right flash always feels like a gamble until you actually pop it on the hotshoe. Over the years, I've moved away from expensive Nikon lights for some of the newer brands, but honestly, it really depends on what you're actually doing with that D780. In my experience, the best option changes depending on your workflow. Before I dive into specific gear, I need to know a couple things:
- are you planning to do more on-camera run-and-gun stuff like at weddings or events?
- are you thinking about setting up a multi-light studio rig with triggers and all that? Budget makes a huge difference too because some of the cheap ones end up costing more when they fail mid-shoot... believe me, i've been there and it's pretty embarrassing.
