Whats the absolute best mirrorless setup I can get for under a grand because I need to buy it like yesterday. My sisters wedding is coming up in two weeks in Seattle and I'm supposed to be taking the unofficial photos but my old DSLR kicked the bucket and I am panic searching. I've been looking at the Sony a6400 because everyone says the autofocus is king but then I see people complaining about the rolling shutter issues and the menu system being a total nightmare to navigate if you're in a hurry. Then there is the Fujifilm X-T30 II which looks amazing and I love the dials but some reviews say the battery life is garbage and I really dont want to be swapping batteries every twenty minutes during the ceremony. I have exactly $1000 to spend on the body and at least one decent lens maybe a prime? It feels like every time I find a good option there is some huge dealbreaker mentioned in the comments. I'm mostly gonna be doing portraits and some candid shots of the reception which is gonna be in a pretty dimly lit hall so low light performance is huge. Should I just go for the Sony and deal with the menus or is there something else I'm missing that works better for events under this budget? I need to order this by tomorrow to get it in time...

Honestly, I've found the Sony a6400 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera is the most reliable choice for fast-paced events. The autofocus is basically industry standard at this price point. To handle the low light, I suggest pairing it with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens. It keeps you under budget while giving you that f/1.4 aperture for the reception. Menus are a pain, but the performance makes it worth it.

I totally get the wedding panic! Last year for my cousins rehearsal dinner in a dimly lit cellar, I went through the exact same stress. Ended up grabbing the Canon EOS R10 Mirrorless Camera and it was an absolute lifesaver! While I was worried about the settings, the interface is actually super friendly compared to those Sony menus. Paired it with the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens because I needed that wide aperture for the dark room, and honestly the results were amazing! That eye-tracking is just pure magic... it stayed locked on the bride even during the messy dance floor shots. Plus, the whole combo came in way under your $1000 limit, so there was extra cash for a few spare batteries and a fast memory card. It really saved my skin that night!

Just saw this and figured I'd weigh in. If you want something that just works without a massive learning curve, the Nikon Z50 is a sleeper hit for weddings. It handles way better than the Sony and is more reliable than the Fuji when it comes to battery and heat management. Why it fits for your Seattle trip:
- The grip is actually big enough to hold comfortably for hours without cramps.
- Weather sealing is decent which you might need if the weather turns.
- Interface is straightforward so you wont get lost in the menus during the ceremony. Try to use this free price tracker to find a deal on the body and pair it with the Nikkor Z 40mm f/2 lens. That combo is killer for low light candid shots and keeps you well under the $1000 mark. Sony AF is great but if you cant find the setting you need in five seconds it doesnt matter how fast the focus is. Nikon is just more reliable for someone in a hurry.
