Im trying to figure this out before I head to Italy next month and honestly my head is spinning. Ive spent like three nights straight on YouTube and reddit and I still feel like I dont know what to buy. My budget is strictly $1000 for everything because I still need to pay for like... actual food on the trip haha.
So I was looking at the Sony a6400 because everyone says the autofocus is magic but then I saw the menus and they look like a total nightmare. My logic was that a good autofocus would be better for street shots while walking around but I dont want to spend half my vacation fighting a menu. Then I saw people talking about the Fujifilm X-T30 II and it looks way cooler and apparently the colors are better straight out of camera which sounds great because I really dont want to spend hours editing RAW files on my laptop.
But then I realized the Fuji lenses are super expensive compared to third party stuff for Sony and now Im stuck again. Is the Fuji experience worth the extra cost for lenses or should I just get the Sony and deal with the ugly menus? Or is there something else I missed entirely? Everything seems to be just slightly over my price point once you add a decent lens and its getting really annoying trying to find that perfect balance...

Honestly, the menu thing with the Sony a6400 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera is a bit overblown. You spend an hour setting up your custom buttons and the Fn menu once, then you basically never look at the main system settings again while shooting. For travel, that autofocus is a lifesaver when youre trying to grab a quick shot of a moving Vespa or someone walking by. If you want to stay under a grand, look for a used body and grab the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Sony E. Its way better than the kit lens and fits the budget if you shop smart. The Fujifilm X-T30 II with XC 15-45mm Lens is nice for the colors, but youll hit a wall with lens prices fast. Sonys third-party ecosystem is just miles ahead for budget-conscious people. Brands like Sigma offer pro-level quality for half the price of Fuji glass. Stick with Sony, map your buttons, and enjoy the trip.

Agreeing with the previous points, but unfortunately, the a6400 hardware feels quite dated now. I had issues with screen visibility in bright Italian sun. Consider the Canon EOS R50 with 18-45mm Lens as a modern alternative.
- Better menu interface
- Responsive subject tracking
- Fits the $1000 limit Sadly, the lens ecosystem is not as good as expected since Canon blocks most third-party glass, so you dont have many cheap options later, but it preserves your travel budget...

To add to the point above: those custom buttons really are the secret. Just be careful with the battery life on those older compact bodies tho. I usually carry like three spares because they drain so fast when you leave them on while walking around a city. Make sure to factor in the cost of extra batteries into that budget so you arent caught off guard mid-trip... it really adds up.
