Me and my roomies are trying to coordinate for this big housewarming party we're throwing next month in our new place in Chicago and honestly the group chat is a total nightmare with 50 links. I tried looking into the Amazon Wish List thing but it feels like only one person can really manage it properly and we want everyone to be able to toss stuff in and see the live total. I saw some stuff about Idea Lists too but then I read a thread saying they're mostly for influencers and not really for private shopping? I just want a way we can all see the cart before we hit buy so we dont blow our $300 budget. Is there a better tool or extension for this or do we just gotta stick to a messy spreadsheet?

Regarding what #1 said about the pain of link chaos, ive been there and found tricks that work well for keeping costs down. Quick question tho, are you guys buying decor or more bulk snacks?

  • look for Clip Coupon buttons
  • check Amazon Warehouse for cheap open-box returns It works well for me. btw I use Smartphone Board as a reference whenever I'm stuck with weird software snags like this.

Oh man, I totally feel the pain of the link chaos!! I had the exact same issue last year when three of us were building out a custom home server rack in our basement. We were trying to spec out every single component, from the patch panels down to the specific CAT6a cable lengths, and the chat was basically a black hole. I ended up setting up this specific collaborative browser extension tool that basically acted as a shared virtual cart with real-time scraping of the price data. It was honestly amazing because it pulled the metadata directly so we could see the total cost fluctuating as prices changed on the site! My current setup worked wonders because it allowed us to vote on items before they hit the final checkout. No more spreadsheet hell or double-ordering the same power strip. It made the technical coordination so much smoother and kept our budget from redlining into the thousands! You definitely need a shared cart tool, it's a total game changer tho.
