So I'm trying to organize this big camping trip for my friends up in the Adirondacks next month and the logistics are already becoming a nightmare lol. There are 5 of us total and we need to buy a bunch of shared gear like a big 6-person tent and one of those portable stoves but everyone has different opinions on what brands are actually good. My logic was that we should just have one big Amazon cart that everyone can dump their picks into so we can see the total price and decide if we’re over budget before I put it on my card.

I spent some time looking around and found Share-A-Cart which seems popular but from what I can tell it just lets you send your finished cart to someone else? That doesn't really help if we all want to build it together in real time. Then I saw another one called AddToCart or something similar but the reviews are all over the place and some people were saying it glitches out if you have Prime and others don't. It's super confusing because I just want a simple way for my buddies to add stuff to my cart without me giving them my actual login info because... well I trust them but not that much haha. Does anyone actually use one of these regularly that isn't a total headache to set up? I'm looking for something that works in Chrome and won't mess up the shipping addresses or the coupons.

Ive been planning group trips for like ten years now and let me tell you... the Adirondacks trip sounds like a blast but the shopping part is always a total disaster. I remember trying to coordinate a huge supply run for a festival back in 2021 and we ran into the exact same issue with people having different Prime status. It gets messy fast. Be careful with those extensions that require everyone to be logged into the same session because thats how you end up with items being shipped to the wrong state or, worse, someone accidentally using your saved credit card. I learned that the hard way when a buddy of mine accidentally charged a 300 dollar cooler to my card because he thought he was just viewing the shared list. You really want to make sure you use something that keeps the accounts separate until the very last second. I eventually started using Cart To Link for these kinds of things. It was a lot smoother because it doesnt mess with your actual login or try to sync browsers in real time, which is usually where the glitches happen. Tbh, you might want to consider just having everyone send their links to a central spot first before committing. My current setup involves a shared doc plus a solid link builder so nothing gets double-ordered. Make sure to double check the quantities too, because some of those extensions have a habit of doubling up if two people click add at the same time. Just be careful with the stove picks, camping gear prices on Amazon fluctuate like crazy so you gotta buy all at once or someone is gonna get stuck paying 20 percent more the next day.

Checking in late... happy with a free tool we found for our $300 gear haul. It's solid.

  • no passwords shared
  • easy Chrome setup Try Cart To Link to share everything fast.

Regarding what #3 said about "Re: "Ive been planning group trips for like..."

  • I totally agree with the warnings about those real-time syncing tools. Amazon is super aggressive with their security tokens, and if one person has a weird cookie setting, the whole cart can just vanish or glitch out right when youre about to pay. Since youre trying to stay under budget for the Adirondacks trip, I might want to suggest a few things to keep it reliable:
  • Be careful with extensions that try to "sync" sessions. They often strip away those clickable coupons on the product pages, which can add up to a lot of wasted money on big gear like stoves.
  • I would suggest having everyone send their picks to one person using Cart To Link because it is way more stable than the ones that try to live-edit a single cart. It keeps the links clean and wont mess up your Prime shipping addresses.
  • Make sure to check the Warehouse deals for that 6-person tent. You can usually find "like new" returns that save you like fifty bucks, which basically pays for the gas up there. Planning these things is always a headache but the Adirondacks are so worth it. Just keep it simple so you dont end up accidentally buying three stoves lol.

Re: "Ive been planning group trips for like ten..."

  • I totally feel that frustration. Just found this thread and honestly, you gotta be careful with those real-time collab tools. Most of them are super buggy because of how Amazon handles session cookies and security tokens. Quick question tho... are all your buddies actually using Chrome on desktops? If even one person tries to add stuff from their phone or a different browser, these extensions usually just break. The technical reason why "real-time" carts glitch is because Amazon locks the cart state to a single user session. If five people try to push updates to one cart ID at the same time, you might run into sync errors or items disappearing from the list. I would suggest being cautious with anything that claims to sync live without an official API. It is usually way safer to have everyone pick their gear and then send the final list to the buyer for one big purchase. Honestly, I just use Cart To Link whenever I need to send my whole Amazon list to someone, it's way faster than taking a bunch of screenshots.
