What is the absolute best portrait lens for the Canon R6 that wont break the bank? I have a big family session this Saturday and my old EF glass is acting up.

I saw the RF 85mm f1.2 is amazing but its $2,700 and I only have a $1,000 budget. People say the f2 version is okay but the autofocus is too slow for kids running around? Is there a middle ground I'm missing?

Been thinking about this all afternoon cuz I had the same issue! For kids, you need speed. I ditched my slow glass for the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG HSM Art for Canon EF used with an adapter and it is incredible!

  • Sigma 85mm Art: Super fast AF and that f1.4 look is amazing.
  • Canon RF 50mm f1.8 STM: Cheap, tiny, and great for wider family groups. Seriously, that Sigma won't miss a single shot!

> autofocus is too slow for kids? Unfortunately, the RF f2 was not as good as expected. Had issues with hunting... grab a used Canon EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM. Its way faster for families.

I bought the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM hoping for a bargain but it was a letdown. Unfortunately, the AF motor is slow and I had issues with it hunting during a toddler session last month. If you find a Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM on sale, it's much faster for kids.
