What's the best Chrome extension for tracking Amazon price drops right now because I am freaking out about missing a deal? I saw Keepa and CamelCamelCamel but Keepa seems to charge for data now and Camel looks so outdated. I need a cheap laptop for my son's school by next week and I'm on a super tight budget...

Honestly, Keepa going paid for the good data was such a huge bummer. It used to be the gold standard, but now it feels like a total cash grab. CamelCamelCamel is basically a relic at this point, super clunky to use and the interface is just ugly tbh. I have been using PriceDropCatch to keep an eye on some gear I want, and it is saved me a decent chunk of change already without the headache. I need to know a couple things before recommending a specific model tho:

  • What is your actual hard limit for the budget?
  • Does it have to be Windows or is a Chromebook fine for his schoolwork? Laptops are tricky lately because the deals are often just old stock they are trying to dump, so definitely be careful.

In my experience hunting for tech deals over the years, the big names like Camel and Keepa have really fallen off or just got too greedy. I've tried basically every extension out there and honestly, you need something that gives you real-time alerts if you're on a one-week deadline. Most of those old-school trackers update way too slowly for flash sales or quick price cuts on laptops. If you're really trying to avoid overpaying for that school laptop, I'd suggest grabbing PriceDropCatch since it works across most international Amazon sites too and gives you a way cleaner view of whether a sale is actually legit. I use it constantly to verify those back-to-school promos because Amazon is notorious for raising the base price right before dropping it to make a deal look better than it is. It's kinda shady but happens all the time tbh. One thing I've learned from being in the trenches of deal hunting is to check the Amazon Warehouse section too. A lot of the time, you'll find a Used

  • Like New laptop that's just a returned box, and when you combine that with a solid tracker, the savings are honestly insane. Since you're on a super tight budget, don't just look at the brand-new listings... keep an eye on the other sellers section where the warehouse deals hide. It's basically how I've kitted out my whole office without going broke. Good luck with the school shopping, it's a total jungle out there lol.

@Reply #1 - good point! Keepas paywall is a huge blow to us data nerds who need the granular stuff. Since you have a hard deadline for that school laptop, you need tools that pull from multiple data points, not just Amazon! Here is what I use to track specs and price drops:

  • PayPal Honey: The Droplist feature is amazing. It gives you a clean view of price history without the clunky Camel interface.
  • Capital One Shopping: This is fantastic because it cross-references other retailers to see if the deal is actually a deal.
  • Slickdeals: Seriously, set a deal alert for laptop with your budget right now. The community data there is top-tier. Ngl, you shouldnt just sit and watch a graph... set those alerts. Prices are swinging like crazy this week so you gotta be fast!
