Looking for the best memory card for my Sony RX100 VII. I shoot a lot of 4K video. What's a reliable, fast card?
Shooting 4K, data corruption is a real risk. I've been happy with SanDisk Extreme Pro. Trust me, it's worth the peace of mind knowing your footage is safer. Nothing worse than losing irreplaceable memories to a cheap card. No complaints so far!
One thing to keep in mind - speed class U3 doesn't mean the card will be extremely fast for shooting stills in JPG or RAW. Instead, it means the card can sustain a continuous minimum write speed of at least 30 MB/s, which is important when shooting high bitrate video.
For the RX100 VII's blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20 fps and seven-shot bursts at up to 90 fps, any quality V30/U3 card will handle it just fine. The Lexar Professional 1066x UHS-I SD Card offers read speeds of up to 160 MB/s and write speeds of up to 120 MB/s, ideal for recording 4K UHD content.
For the RX100 VII, you'll want to focus on UHS-I SD cards since the camera has a single UHS-I SD card slot. Since it can record 4K video at 100Mbps, you need a card that can write at least 12.5MB/s - a U3 or V30 card or higher is good for this.
My top recommendations are the SanDisk Extreme V30 UHS-I SDXC Card and Lexar Professional 1066x Silver V30 UHS-I SDXC Card. Both are reliable, widely available, and handle the camera's features perfectly. The RX100 VII can use cards up to 256GB, so 64-256GB is a safe bet。
Just try any of these SD cards: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sd+card+uhs-i&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50
Hey! I've used Sandisk cards, but unfortunately, my cheaper one had issues with 4K on my RX100. Not as good as expected. I'd suggest a Sandisk Extreme Pro (the faster one) even if it stretches your budget a little. Seriously, corrupted video is a bummer! Maybe check if it's on sale? Good luck!
Saved for later, ty!
