Hey everyone! I’ve recently transitioned to a Sony A7C and I'm looking for that one "perfect" prime lens to take on my daily street walks. I’m currently torn between the classic 35mm and 50mm focal lengths. I really need something compact enough to stay discreet, but fast enough to handle low-light alleys or evening shots. I’ve been eyeing the Sony 35mm f/1.8 because of its weight, but I'm worried it might be too wide for some portraits. On the other hand, is a 50mm too tight for narrow city streets? For those of you shooting Sony E-mount, which prime do you find most versatile for capturing everyday urban life?

Seconding the recommendation for the 35mm! Tbh, its the sweet spot for the A7C. In my experience looking at the market lately, here’s how the main rivals stack up: - Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary: Better build than the Sony, but slightly heavier.
- Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE: Basically the budget alternative if you wanna save some cash... 35mm is just way more versatile in tight alleys... gl!

Totally agree! I once ruined a lens in rain so I'm paranoid. Maybe use that Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 with a Hoya 55mm HD3 UV Filter? It feels safer to me.

Stumbled upon this - I went through this last year! I've tried many budget setups and in my experience: - Try Sigma
- Buy used tbh you cant go wrong with Sigma, right?

Yo! Honestly, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 is the winner for the A7C cuz it's sooo light and fits the street vibe perfectly!! - Sony FE 35mm f/1.8: Fast AF and way more versatile for tight spots.
- Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G: Technical alternative—super sharp and tiny, but maybe too slow at f/2.5? Pro tip: Check out 'Sony Alpha Blog' for real-world comparisons. gl!
