My current rig is basically a potato at this point and it crashes whenever I try to edit video, honestly im so done with it. I need a Ryzen 7000 chip for a new build but these prices are still insane for my budget. Where have you guys been finding legit discounts lately?

I upgraded my editing rig to a Ryzen 5 7600 last month because the 7700X was just too expensive. Honestly, it is an amazing little chip and handles 4k video editing like a champ! Here is what worked for me:

  • I set up an alert on PriceDropCatch and snagged it when it hit $180.
  • I paired it with a budget B650 board to keep costs low. Totally love it and saved a ton of cash.

Honestly, the Ryzen 7000 series pricing has been all over the place. If you have a Micro Center nearby, just go there. Their bundles are usually unbeatable, especially when you factor in the mobo and ram. If you aren't near one, just keep an eye on r/buildapcsales because that's where the real deals pop up first. Btw, I use PriceDropCatch for my Newegg and Amazon alerts and its way better than checking manually every day. Snagging a 7700X for way under MSRP a few months back was a breeze thanks to those notifications. Dont waste your time refreshing pages. Just set the alert and forget it until your phone buzzes. Also, check open-box stuff on B&H or Best Buy if you want to save an extra fifty bucks. Totally worth it since cpus rarely die.

Just saw this thread. While the 7600 is decent, I politely disagree with going too low-end if you're doing heavy video work. I learned this the hard way last year when I tried to save cash on a cheap open-box 7600X for my Premiere workflow. It struggled with heavy rendering, and the thermal throttling was insane. If you are hunting for deals, here is what I would suggest:

  • Be careful with refurbished chips on eBay because AMD's warranty doesn't transfer, which bit me hard when my cheap chip died after three months.
  • Make sure to factor in the cost of a beefy cooler, because these 7000 series run hot and cheaping out on cooling will tank your performance anyway. You might want to consider saving up just a bit more for a 7700X rather than rushing into a compromise.
