I'm losing my mind trying to pack for this Japan trip in two weeks and honestly the more I look at essential lists for my Canon R6 the more annoyed I get. Like I read everywhere that the Peak Design Capture Clip is the holy grail for travel but then I see people saying it hurts your shoulder after an hour or ruins the strap on your bag so I'm just sitting here staring at my cart not knowing if I should pull the trigger. My logic was that I need to be light because we're walking like ten miles a day but then I realize the battery life on mirrorless is just trash compared to my old DSLR so now I'm looking at those PD power banks and extra LP-E6NH batteries and it’s just getting so expensive.
I have about $350 left in the gear budget but it disappears so fast. Do I really need a dedicated sensor cleaning kit for a 10 day trip? Some people say just use a rocket blower but others act like a single dust speck will ruin my life. I also keep seeing people push those VND filters for street stuff but they're like $150 for a decent one and I don't even know if I'll be doing much video so I'm torn. It's just a lot of conflicting noise. What are you guys actually using day-to-day when you're on the move? Like what can I actually leave at home without ruining the experience...
Im really satisfied with my current setup since I started prioritizing protection over fancy gadgets. Quick tip... grab a ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Canon EOS R6 because its cheap insurance for your screen. I looked at the market and the generic brands often peel, but these fit perfectly. Before you spend more tho, what lenses are you bringing? Weight really dictates what accessories actually work.
Unfortunately, that clip was a total shoulder killer for me on long days. Skip it and grab two Canon LP-E6NH Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery packs instead. Youll definitely need the juice.
> Do I really need a dedicated sensor cleaning kit for a 10 day trip? You dont even need a cleaning kit and definitely skip that VND filter! Unless you're shooting tons of video, a VND is totally overkill tho. Just grab a Giottos Rocket Air Blaster Large for dust. It works wonders! For all that walking, get the Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap SLL-BK-3 instead of the clip. It totally saves your neck! Check out Ken Rockwell for solid gear advice!
Yep, this is the way
Re: "Unfortunately, that clip was a total shoulder killer..." - totally agree. Over the years I've found simple gear keeps you shooting longer. For reliability, check your cards:
