Hey everyone! I just recently picked up the DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo, and while I’m absolutely loving the flight experience, I’m finding the included shoulder bag a bit lacking in terms of actual protection and organization. I’m planning a few hiking trips this summer and I’m really worried about accidentally crushing the Goggles 3 or snapping the joysticks on the RC Motion 3 while they're crammed in my gear bag.
I’ve been looking for a solution that offers a bit more "armor" without being overly massive. Ideally, I need a case with precision-cut foam that can snugly fit the drone, the Goggles 3, the controller, and at least three or four batteries. Water resistance would be a huge plus since I’m often filming near the coast or in unpredictable weather. I’ve seen a few hardshell options from brands like GPC and PGYTECH, but I’m torn between a dedicated hard case and a more compact semi-rigid shell that fits inside a larger pack.
What are you all using to transport your Avata 2 gear safely? Do you have a favorite hardshell case or a specific backpack insert that you swear by for durability and portability?
yo, I totally feel u on this. Honestly, that stock shoulder bag that comes with the Fly More Combo is basically just a glorified lunch box. I found out the hard way when I crammed mine into a hiking pack last month; unfortunately, the pressure ended up scuffing my Goggles 3 because there’s zero structural integrity. Not as good as expected at ALL for $1k+ worth of gear. Basically, you gotta understand that FPV gear is way more "pointy" and fragile than a folding Mavic. The joysticks on the DJI RC Motion 3 and the antennas on the DJI Goggles 3 are literal magnets for snap-damage if they aren't nested in hard precision-cut foam. If ur hiking, you need something that wont flex when ur pack shifts. Here is what I recommend based on my own trial and error: 1. **The Tank Option:** I eventually caved and got the GPC DJI Avata 2 Case. It’s highkey the industry standard. It fits the drone, 4 batteries, and everything else perfectly. It’s waterproof (IP67) which is great for coastal flights, but yeah, it's a bit bulky to carry by hand for miles.
2. **The Budget Hardshell:** If GPC is too pricey, the Lykus Titan MA210 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Avata 2 is a solid alternative. It’s significantly cheaper but still gives you that "armor" feel for a better value proposition.
3. **The Hybrid Solution:** Since you're hiking, look at the PGYTECH DJI Avata 2 Carrying Case. It's semi-rigid, so it protects from crushing inside a larger backpack way better than the stock bag, without the weight of a full plastic briefcase. I mean, I had issues with "soft" cases before and it just isn't worth the anxiety when ur miles from the car. gl! ✌️
Seconding the recommendation above! I actually dropped my kit during a coastal hike last month... realy scary stuff. While StartRC is solid value, I use the HPRC 2400 for DJI Avata 2 cuz the resin shell is literally indestructible and the foam is laser-cut. Lesson learned: dont trust soft bags near rocks. Make sure to check if the pressure valve is auto-equalizing if youre hiking high altitude. gl!
In my experience, you gotta check out the STARTRC DJI Avata 2 Waterproof Hard Case. It's basically the gold standard for value right now. The CNC-cut EVA foam is super precise—fits the Goggles 3 and Motion 3 perfectly so nothing rattles. Plus, it's IP67 waterproof, which is HUGE for your coastal trips. Honestly, for the price, the protection-to-weight ratio is unbeatable! gl with the hiking!! 👍
> Lesson learned: dont trust soft bags near rocks. Building on the earlier suggestion, i totally agree that the soft bag is a bit of a gamble for hiking. I’m pretty satisfied with how I’ve been handling it lately without spending a fortune on a brand name case. Basically, I found this old hard-shell toolbox in the garage and just lined it with some pluck foam. Honestly, it’s not as fancy as the custom ones mentioned, but it’s been super reliable for my weekend trips. I'm not 100% sure if the foam I used is the right density for electronics, but so far no complaints! I think I read somewhere that if you don't get the custom-cut stuff, you gotta be careful about the Goggles 3 lenses getting scratched. Someone told me that wrapping them in a microfiber cloth first is the way to go, so thats what I’ve been doing... It feels way more solid than that shoulder bag anyway. I don't worry as much when I toss it in the trunk now.
