Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger on the DJI Mini 4 Pro after eyeing it for months, and man, this thing is a beast for its size. I’m upgrading from an older drone, so the jump in camera quality and those omnidirectional sensors feel like a total game-changer for me.
However, I’ve quickly realized that just owning the drone is only half the battle. I’ve been browsing through forums and YouTube videos, and I’m falling down a massive rabbit hole of accessories. My main goal is to use this primarily for travel photography and some light cinematic videography while hiking, so portability and ease of use are my biggest priorities.
I’m already looking at a few things but would love some real-world feedback from people who have been flying this model for a while. For starters, how essential are ND filters for the Mini 4 Pro? I’ve seen some debate about whether the D-Log M profile requires them to keep the shutter speed in check during bright noon flights, or if I can get away without them. Also, I’m using the RC 2 controller—do you guys think a glass screen protector and a neck strap are must-haves, or is the screen durable enough on its own?
I’m also on the fence about the Fly More Combo Plus batteries. The extra flight time sounds amazing, but I'm a bit worried about the weight pushing it over the 250g limit in certain regions where I'll be traveling. Lastly, are there any 'hidden gem' accessories that nobody talks about? Maybe a specific landing pad for tall grass or a better compact carrying case than the one DJI provides?
I really want to make sure I’m geared up properly before my first big trip next month, but I also don’t want to waste money on gimmicks that are just going to sit in my bag. If you had to pick the top 3 absolute 'must-have' items for a new Mini 4 Pro owner to get the best experience, what would they be and why?
Honestly, I really suggest getting a DJI Mini 4 Pro 360° Propeller Guard for safety. I unfortunately crashed mine into a tree while hiking and it was so sad... but yeah, also get a SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-I V30 cuz losing footage is literally the worst. i'd skip the heavy batteries for travel just to stay legal and safe. safety first! cheers
Did this last week, worked perfectly
In my experience, the Mini 4 Pro is a beast but you definitely gotta gear up right if you want those cinematic shots. Since youre shooting D-Log M, ND filters are 100% ESSENTIAL. Without 'em, your shutter speed is gonna be way too high in midday sun, making your footage look choppy and digital... basically ruins that smooth motion blur you need for hiking vids. Just grab a set from Freewell or PolarPro, you really cant go wrong with either brand. For the RC 2, a neck strap is a total game changer when youre out on trails. It lets me use both hands to adjust my pack without putting the controller in the dirt. Tbh, a glass screen protector is just cheap insurance for that bright display, so definitely get one. Top 3 must-haves:
1. ND Filter set (crucial for exposure control)
2. RC 2 Neck strap
3. A compact hard case from PGYTECH or Startrc I'd skip the Plus batteries for international travel... the 250g limit is a huge deal in most regions and it's just not worth the legal risk imo. gl!
